Democrats a danger, Bush tells GOP donors
Attacks set stage for tense election fight

STOCKTON, Calif. -- With control of Congress up for grabs in November and Republicans mired in a sex scandal, President George W. Bush is ripping into Democrats as never before. His message: They're dangerous to America.

...

"If the people of the United States don't think we ought to be listening in on the conversations of people who could do harm to the United States, then go ahead and vote for the Democrats," he added. "If you want to make sure those on the front line of protecting you have the tools necessary to do so, you vote Republican, for the safety of the United States."

...

Democrats offered alternative legislation that would permit warrantless eavesdropping for up to a week, with court approval required after that.

...

After listening to Bush in Stockton, Republican donor Clinton Hutchinson acknowledged that the president might have gone a bit far. But he was impressed by Bush's ability to draw clear distinctions.

"A lot of politicians I've watched talk at you. President Bush talks to you," he said.

1. He's heading into the "two bozos" rhetoric his daddy used against
Clinton/Gore.

4. As long as he doesn't name them supporters of enemy combatants
and has them disappeared, I'm not too worried. I think the nation is fed up with empty rhetoric about the WOT.

22. But that is exactly his intention. It always has been.
That is exactly what all his midnight legislation has been leading to.

Now that he has the bill, he's free to amp the rhetoric.

2. Only a Danger To You, George!
And you aren't America, nor even any part of it, based on your behavior, you torture monger.

Yes, you and any of your co-conspirators, enablers, and fellow travelers, are cowering, and rightly so. The Grand Old Party's over, it's time to call it a day!

3. He is right we are a danger.
A danger to the criminals currently occupying the white house and other federal offices.

However the danger is overstated. I'm sure the cabal has enough moles in the NoPosition Party to effectively block any real investigations into actual serious crimes. Foley and Hastert et al ought to be concerned, but the real criminals, the one's responsible for around 3,000 deaths due to criminally negligent homicide, those folks don't have to lose much sleep.

So if the senate is tied who wants to guess which isle Joe L. (Idiot - Conn) is going to end up sitting on?

6. Disturbing
So, does this mean that he is eventually going to start labling Democrats and their sympathizers "enemy combatants" and haul us all off to Gitmo or some other "secret" overseas location? It is one thing to criticize another party, their policies, ideals, etc. and discuss differences but I feel that it is very dangerous IMHO to start labeling people who merely have a different poit of view as "dangerous" as though we are all would-be terrorists. Given that he currently has a +/- 30% approval rating, is the President actually suggesting that +/-60% of the American public who do not approve of the job he is doing as President are "dangerous to America?" :scared:

If you care about the economy, our armed forces, our children, the constitution and the environment vote for Democrats.

Its really quite simple george; you are a military deserter and a corporate criminal and a liar and a slave to the PNAC, only fucking morons would vote for you, just like the morons did before.

11. .
What should make one think is, that it was already established that it is horseshit as the White House couldn't name a single Democrat who even insinuated something like this. Yet he goes on and on with this rhetoric that is, like Olbermann mentioned, close to accusing the Dems of treason.
To emphasize again, he is doing it although he knows it's wrong and that's really a good example of republican politics. Dean was right, they are willing to say anything in order to win.

12. This is approaching an unprecedented level of partisan attack
by a sitting President. Presidents have often "gone on the attack" against the opposing party, but to say that the opposing party is "dangerous to America" is beyond what has gone before. This is approaching the level of action - in that if there is a group of people who are "dangerous" to the country, the President might feel it his "duty" to respond as the "war President" and the "Decider". I don't like this at all and anyone who says that this kind of speech is just "politics" has not been paying attention for the last six years...
