Missouri Lawmaker(R) Stationed in Iraq Shot, Injured

A state lawmaker stationed in Iraq has been shot, government officials said Friday.

The governor's office and lawmakers said Friday that Rep. Jason Brown, R-Platte City, was injured recently while on a one-year tour in Iraq.

A sniper's bullet hit Brown's lung, according to an e-mail sent by fellow Rep. Susan Phillips, R-Kansas City, to others who worked with Brown at the Capitol.

"Representative Brown is a true patriot and a friend," Gov. Matt Blunt said in a statement offering prayers. "We encourage all Missourians to take a moment today to think about all of our men and women in uniform serving throughout the globe defending our freedom and values that make the United States the greatest country in the world."

Brown, a member of the Army Reserves, was deployed in March. He has been serving as a civil affairs specialist, helping build roads, bridges, hospitals and schools.

Get well wishes to him. At least one Republican that is not a yellow elephant.

More than I can say for the chickenhawks who run his party.

7. I wish Rep. Brown a quick and complete recovery
Knowing that the Republicans, too, have their share of patriots and persons of honor (such as Rep. Brown) gives me hope that someday we can return this country to what we all want it to be.
As I've said here before, there are no Democratic veterans nor Republican veterans. We are all just veterans, who once swore to uphold and defend the Constitution. My best wishes for his quick recovery and comforting thoughts to his family.

9. Best vonnegut quote ever:
"All soldiers are my brothers."

which is actually a paraphrase from a 2003 Utne Reader interview:

"Right after the Gulf War against Iraq in 1991, you remarked on television footage you’d seen of Iraqi soldiers who had been taken prisoner, saying, “Those men are my brothers.”

V: All soldiers are."

12. Gee, a Republican who isn't a gutless punk?
What's that formation of big fat oinking birds doing flying overhead? If I didn't know better, I'd think they were winged pigs.

State Rep. Jason Brown of Platte City has been wounded while serving in Iraq, officials said today.

Brown was shot in the lung by a sniper, said Susan Phillips, another state representative from Platte County. She notified Brown’s friends and state officials e-mail Thursday.

The date of the shooting has not been announced.

Brown, 36, is reportedly in stable condition in a hospital in Iraq, said Lisa Machon, a legislative assistant in his Jefferson City office. The extent of the injury has not yet been released.

14. "Brown, a Republican..."
Brown, a Republican, was elected to the General Assembly in 2002. He is seeking re-election. His opponent is Democrat Jared Welch.

Just an FYI from the article.
