Anti-U.S. Attack Videos Spread on Web
Anti-U.S. Attack Videos Spread on Web
By EDWARD WYATT
Published: October 6, 2006

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5 — Videos showing insurgent attacks against American troops in Iraq, long available in Baghdad shops and on Jihadist Web sites, have steadily migrated in recent months to popular Internet video-sharing sites, including YouTube and Google Video.

Many of the videos, showing sniper attacks against Americans and roadside bombs exploding under American military vehicles, have been posted not by insurgents or their official supporters but apparently by Internet users in the United States and other countries, who have passed along videos found elsewhere.

Among the scenes being viewed daily by thousands of users of the sites are sniper attacks in which Americans are felled by snipers as a camera records the action and of armored Humvees or other military vehicles being hit by roadside bombs.

In some videos, the troops do not appear to have been seriously injured; in one, titled “Sniper Hit” and posted on YouTube by a user named 69souljah, a serviceman is knocked down by a shot but then gets up to seek cover. Other videos, however, show soldiers bleeding on the ground, vehicles exploding and troops being loaded onto medical evacuation helicopters.

1. Maybe....
if more people actually see the cost of war, it might be brought to an earlier end.

TV did that to Vietnam.

We can only hope.

5. That's an interesting question. The admin. of Cryptome.org has...
...been questioned on several occasions by the FBI. Why? For linking to the infamous "Juba" sniper video. Basically, it shows scene after scene of sniper(s) (sometimes seemingly videotaped through the scopes on their rifles) shooting American soldiers. It's very long and shows dozens, IIRC, of US troops being shot. It's not gory and frankly, if I had a son who was 15 or older, I'd be sure to show it to them if they were considering a stint in the Perpetual War.

Anyway, the video was already widely available (this is before YouTube, mind you) on Internet video sharing sites by the time Cryptome started streaming it. But the FBI wanted to, ya know, just drop by and get a quick informal loyalty oath just in case. I don't have a link to the account, written by the admin himself, but you can probably find it by Googling FBI and Cryptome.

Also, if you haven't already, you need to visit Cryptome.org. It doesn't usually show stuff like Juba, it's more related to declassified material and other things of interest. It's "Eyeballing" series is second to none when looking for "on the ground" information about a particular topic though that can sometimes contain disturbing or gruesome news images, depending on the news story it's "eyeballing".

7. I was thinking the same thing. "Download this for free trip to Gitmo."
We'll just have to rely upon our trusty, brave media to bring these to the public.

Hey...

Why are you laughing?

Did I say something funny?

6. I bet Donald Rumsfeld masturbates to those videos
Fuckin' chickenhawk. Speaks awfully tough for someone who's never seen a day of combat.

8. I dont see them as Anti-US
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 04:03 PM by warishell
I hear the insurgency shout "allah is great" or whatever so I suppose some could see it as anti-US. I view them because I want to know what the hell is going on out there because the news networks sure as hell aren't showing them. I check out YouTube and Ogrish.com, the latter only for war videos as there are some really messed up videos on there. I wont watch beheadings or anything like that but gun fights, roadside/suicide bombs for example I will watch because I think it is important to know what the troops over there really have to deal with. I want to see the reality of war and boy is it messed up! :(((((

The sugar coated crap on Fox News, CNN, Sky News here in the UK is showing me nothing.

9. Unfortunately, you and the gestapo may have differences in
understanding what is 'anti-American' or 'unAmerican'.

Guess whose vote wins.

And Welcome to DU!

10. Maybe if the media would show these things...
...and provide us with URLs of these supposed "terrorist web sites" they're always talking about, we could better inform ourselves?
