Parties must get rid of their militias: Maliki
BAGHDAD: Political parties must either get rid of their militias or get out of politics, Iraq’s prime minister said in his toughest warning yet to groups blamed for the country’s wave of sectarian violence.

“The presence of parties with militias in the government is not acceptable.”

“The political parties must obey the decisions of the government or else get out of the political process. I don’t believe there is any power that wants to leave the political process,” he said, speaking during an “Iftar” dinner, the meal that ends the daily Ramazan fast.

1. Maliki and what army . . .
Is going to get these militias to disband? The Iraqi army, completely compromised with sectarian loyalties that come before their loyalty to the state?

So Maliki forces the militia leaders out of government and poof! instant civil war.

12. Maybe Black Water Inc's MERCENARY Army can bring about order
At $2,200.00 a day per head courtesy of the US Taxpayer.

14. With 23 million potential recruits willing to kill . . .
Those of their fellow citizens who follow the "wrong" religion for free, I'm not sure that even the mighty American treasury (now a wholly-owned subsidiary of China, Inc.) can compete.

This should last about two seconds.

The Green Zone sure does make ya bold.

HAHAHAHA

Good luck with that Maliki.

Be sure to make funeral arrangement before you head out on the promotional tour for this one.

Don't get me wrong. I really wish this would work, but does this clown really think he is in any position to make this happen?

5. I think he's wrong.
First people need to be safe, then people will make militias obsolete.

6. Catch 22
How can people ever be safe when Shia and Sunni militias are killing each other?

7. They're killing each other because they can.
The militias are generally meant for protection. There were no militias that I know about in pre-war Iraq. They serve a purpose.

8. Its the militias that are killing Iraqis
The Sunnis militia is the insurgency and the Shia's militia is the Badr and Madhi Army.

9. Yes
but thats because of weakness of the central government. They are filling a power (and safety) vacuum. I don't disagree on their actions. I'm just saying that getting rid of the militias will not solve the problem. If you change the conditions, then there will be no need for the militias. Remember, militias are still legal in the US, but there is no need for them.

10. Didn't he support Hezbollah?
A political party with a militia (or vice versa) that refuses to disarm? Where'd he learn all that hypocrisy?
