Jeffords asks GOP group to stop using his picture in Rainville ad
Jeffords asks GOP group to stop using his picture in Rainville ad
By Wilson Ring, Associated Press Writer | October 9, 2006

MONTPELIER, Vt. --U.S. Sen. James Jeffords asked a GOP group Monday to stop using his picture in a television commercial promoting Republican U.S. House candidate Martha Rainville.

In a letter to Tom Reynolds, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, Jeffords said the ad implied he was supporting Rainville, the former head of the Vermont National Guard.

"That is not true," said Jeffords, I-Vt. "Consequently, I am requesting you cease running the advertisement immediately."

But the committee said it would continue airing the commercial, which hit the airwaves Thursday.

3. The NRCC is really pushing
Rainville`s "independence" in their non-stop ads. Their clever wording is aimed at convincing Vermonters she`s anything but a regular Republican, ready to stand up to those in power. Will it work? Perhaps. Lots of Rainville lawn signs in this area. I`ve heard many Republican mouthpieces say this is a race they believe they can win. Let`s hope they`re wrong.

6. I think Welch will pull it off
but Rainville has really been working at distancing herself from all things repuke, and she is well known in the state.

7. I was at Tammy Duckworth's headquarters on Sunday
According to one of her people, the GOP has put together a bunch of ads and flyers for Repukes that make no mention of the GOP. Reading them, you'd think they were democrats. They say everything short of Impeach Bush. These guys will do anything to win, and one tactic is to blur the line between Dem and Repuke.

I expect some bogus Democrat "scandal" to explode soon. The Repukes can't defend themselves, so they're just going to muddy the water so voters will say 'a pox on both their houses' and stay home.

8. Can Jeffords now go to the FEC?
I mean, now that he's asked them to take down the ad (or his image), and they refused, then the GOP can be hit with violating election laws ...

9. Fight the ad with another ad...
Just a talking-head of Jeffords saying, "I in no way endorse Martha Rainville for the US House of Representatives, and she should be ashamed of herself for implying that I do." See what times the Rainville commercial is scheduled, and get the stations to run the Jeffords one immediately afterward. Jeffords doesn't even really have to pay for them; get the Dem H of R candidate to do so.
