Court rejects Roe v. Wade companion case
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court on Tuesday turned aside the case of Sandra Cano, one of the women behind the legalization of abortion, who had sought to reverse the victory she won 33 years ago.

Cano says she never wanted an abortion and that her difficult early life resulted in her becoming the anonymous plaintiff in Doe v. Bolton, the lesser-known case which the justices ruled on the same day in 1973 as the landmark Roe v. Wade.

Cano says she was a 22-year-old victim of an abusive husband and that her children were in foster care when she sought legal assistance in getting a divorce and in getting her children back.

She said an aggressive attorney pushed her into the abortion case.

4. Who knows what's going on with McCorvey.
I hate to challenge a person's deepest moral beliefs, and maybe she is completely sane and sincere, but sometimes I wonder if she just got so tired of the death threats and having to take different routes to work each day that she just gave in to her abusers. Battered wife syndrome, PTSS, or whatever the correct term would be.

5. Everything I;ve read shows her "conversion" way different than that
Including turning on her long time lesbian partner overnight.

6. The right-wing has probably not given her a moment's peace for
decades, once they located her.

It's SO possible she has been trying to appease them to get them to leave her alone for what's left of her life.

9. I don't think that was the implication in that post
I think the post was more saying that perhaps she was telling the truth, at least the truth as she sees it. She may feel like her situation was used to push through legal abortion.

Some women who have had an abortion do regret it later in life, regardless of who does or doesn't put pressure on them. I don't have a problem with her feeling that way, but to try to revisit that case legally over a situation that was resolved a long time ago is a bit overdramatic.

I'm glad the court declined to hear the case. My opinion is that abortion should always be legal. I have no problem with people who think abortion is wrong expressing their opinion and even discussing it with pregnant women who seek their advice. Women should know that there are options beside abortion and where to look for the information about adoption or financial assistance. What the right doesn't always understand is that Planned Parenthood does discuss these things with women prior to performing an abortion and counsels them accordingly. They don't push women into having abortions. I can't speak for all abortion providers, but I am familiar with PP and their way of doing things.

10. what the hell is that supposed to mean?
She wanted an abortion, "the left" helped her get it.

Obviously, since you refer to "the left" in such a condescending manner, you don't consider yourself part of it. Maybe you are in the wrong place.

12. Good. I heard about this woman
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 01:04 PM by Megahurtz
awhile ago. I heard that she became a "Born Again" :eyes: Fundy, and feels guilty over having her abortion and her Court Case. Since it's a personal problem, and Abortion is a personal issue, she shouldn't be laying her personal issue on others. I think her Fundy Church was pushing her to do this too.

This should be a message to all Fundies everywhere to back off on Abortion.
