Establishment lining up behind Dean
by kos Sat Dec 6th,2003

"Having talked to several "establishment" types this week, it was startling to see how the conversation had moved on from who the nominee would be, and the possible repercussions of a Dean victory, to ways they could tap into Dean's money and supporters. The $60K (or whatever) for Rep. Boswell was key. It was then they realized that Dean would share the spoils, and nothing talks like money in DC. None of the other candidates can compete."

-snip-

"(Little known secret -- just about every Democratic candidate is trying to find graceful ways to crash the next Dean Meetup seeking support.)

And the best path towards that money and the avid support of the Dean army? Simple. Line up behind Dean. Praise the man. Praise his innovative campaign. And, most important of all, praise his supporters.

The establishment wants as much of that Dean magic as they can capture."

--This is the best news for democrats I can think of...we need the house and senate back too! yesir yesir 3 bags full $$$
So c'mon all you Deaniacs, get out their and support whoever lines up behind our man, you have the $$$POWER$$$ hot damn, weeeehaw!

1. The Current Establishment is not what we won't coming back to....
Washington. I thought that Dean was supposed to be anti-establishment, representing the "Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party". Amazing what a little money, press, and elitist ideology can do to a campaign and the followers of it's movement. That's O.K. maybe the establishment will go along with that Tax hike on the middle class of this country as well, and then you'll all go over the falls together.

2. What's the problem
he earned, not inherited it. Are you discontent because he is so passe??? He's not the fad because he gained the respect of the Washington establishment?

I don't support Dean but I must say, he has an impressive campaign thanks to his guidance and to his supporters.

14. your mantra grows tiresome
I see your post count and believe I have seen just about all your psots. They all seem to contain the same kind of whine: middle-class tax increases.

If I recall you spoke of a friend who benefitted from the boy king's bribes and conceded that single folks didn't get it.

I've mentioned to you before that the cuts many middle class folks did get are easily outweighed by the increases in state and/or local tax increases.

I also mentioned to you the difference between keeping a few extra bucks out of your check and the lump sum of porperty taxes.

It is clear you know not of which you speak and you are obvioiusly parroting someone's propaganda.

Doesn't do much for your credibility friend. At least nothing good.

Julie

6. you really are obsessed with that "middle class tax hike"
aren't you?

I've seen your posts about it in every Dean thread. You're that concerned about $300 or whatever measly amount you've gotten out of it? That has come back to bite you in the butt ten-fold in increased local taxes and decreased social services? There's much much more to Dean than the tax thing, not to mention that his stand on it is hardly a done deal or closed to modification.

9. Actually
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 07:04 AM by La_Serpiente
that is not one of my main concerns and I haven't made any gripes about it prior to the my other post on this thread. As far as I am concerned, it is secondary to me since I do not pay taxes and am only a sophomore in college.

I have other resevations about dean, but I do not want to be flamed away.

If you wish to know why, just PM me.

. . . but if the shoe fits, wear it (just kidding, I see your more reasoned remarks--Dean's not perfect but he is galvanizing the people like no one else to confront and conquer BushCo. yes, he is "business-friendly" (an objection I'm hearing lately in one form or another) but his name is absent from any and all BushCo/BFEE front groups such as Carlyle Group, Halliburton, KBR, PNAC, Enron, etc.).

12. Good God
I must be really tired.

Sorry bout that.

I'll just say some of the good things about Dean. I think every candidate in this race, save Sharpton, Kucinich, is tainted by corps so I am not going to use it as a "litmus" test for the candidates.

I don't think he is tainted by Enron, and all those other big boys. Maybe Monsato (OK, shut up now La_Serp) :-)

But anyway, he has definetly hit up the base, no doubt about that. On top of that, I appreciate the fact that he woken up the Democrats in Washington. It is about time they got off their A$$es and start representing the activist part of the party. It is their fault, not Dean's, for losing all these elections these past years and now, they are feeling the full brunt of their missteps.

Dean also is a doctor, a big plus.

As a side note, I don't know why the DNC or Democratic party aren't putting forth technological proposals to satisfy the internet base. We don't want money - just reforms to keep the internet free from corporate controls and to KEEP IT FREE!!!

18. No need to feel ashamed!
Nothing wrong with telling the truth that Dean is a pro-status quo, corporation friendly candidate. And thus it should be no surprise that he is accepted and promoted by powerful people and entities.

20. Dean is galvanzing ESTABLISHMENT support, which generates media exposure
Dean has generated support from the Democratic party and mass media Establisment. This then generates media exposure. The media exposure is what drives Dean's poll numbers.

25. sorry to burst your bubble on that one
my 80 year old mother and others from her retirement housing addition are meeting monthly (first Wednesday night) every month to do their part in getting the word out to others -

this campaign has been and will continue to be driven by the people of this country to kick out the corporate fascists -

not every corporation is a "whore" and a "prostitute" and to blanketly label anyone or anything in the category as "evil" and "corrupted" is to do a disservice to ourselves and our abilities.

We need to focus on what makes us a cohesive country - to be the uniters - and to show that the BFEE has thrived upon the divisionary tactics that destroy us all.

Remember the old adage:

United we STAND - Divided we FALL ?

We need to stand together and form a wall of humanity to stop the destruction of our democratic republic - not to continue to castigate anyone and everyone who works for "the man" or "the corporation" -

think about what you can do to unite all of those around you to make a change -

will you win by taking the 2% purity test?

or will you win by diplomacy and compromise?

I am not talking about becoming a rightwing xtian zealot - that is yet another 2% that has been empowered by this mal-administration and has made the other 98% of this country feel ostracized and threatened by their "be very afraid" jingoism -

I say - do not be afraid of them - be afraid of yourself -

your inabilities to stand tall and stare them down and say the truths - that the entire platform of this mal-administration is built on lies and death and the destruction of all that is good and noble about our country.

We, the US, have failed to learn from our mistakes of the past and progress forward into the world by fearing the truth about our policies -

We, the citizens of the US, need to stand and say "no more exported death and destruction for our cushy little lives - no more pollution at the rate of 25% for 2% of the global population -

We, the citizens of the US, must look at ourselves in the mirror and see who we are and what we have allowed to be done in our names.

Better foreign policies are the answer - our knowledge is the solution.

19. of the candidates, Dean is the most "constituent-responsive"
--were you (ie, the middle class) under a stupendous tax burden under Clinton?

after Dean gets the nomination and the reptiles start meming the dreaded "middle class tax hike" I hope you and others who posted it here on DU are happy at your divisive and distorting spin-meistering. You can walk away chuckling while you pocket your $2.60 weekly or whatever in h*ll the "middle class tax break" amounts to.

Like someone else says above, I'll be more than happy to pay my fair share for the social services that are now disappearing altogether from my town and state, instead of higher property taxes to make up for funds lacking from local budgets and used for the most basic things like road repairs--because of lack of federal funding.

8. Yep- AND it shows that he's serious about nationalizing the election
which is EXACTLY what we need to do in order to capitalize not only on Dean's strengths, but on anti-incumbant fervor, which will be even stronger by next fall. Dean's going to have big time coattails... enough to take back the house and make an impact on state legislatures.

What a brilliant and gutzy call this early in the race....

13. And this is good because?
So Governor Dean is a good guy because he directs support to incumbent Congresscritters? I have so many problems with this I can't even list them.

This one will come back to bite him on the ass.

hello, winning back the country means bringing together EVERYone who wants regime change. It means a UNITED Democratic Party. As usual Dean has pulled a brilliant move and left everyone in the dust scratching their heads about it.

24. My congresswoman is Ishoo
and she is an EXCELLENT congresswoman. If Dean can help her, more power to him. I moved to California from Maryland where I helped elect Chris Van Hollen, another EXCELLENT Democrat. If Dean can help Chris, definitely more power to him.

Yes, I am disappointed in some Democrats in Congress. But look at issues that are important. Some Democrats will join with almost all of the Republicans to vote in a way that I don't like. But the people who do vote for the interests of the middle class are overwhelmingly Democrats.
