(Congressman Don) Sherwood’s wife weighs into debate (PA-10)
Over the weekend, voters in Don Sherwood’s congressional district began receiving “A personal note from Carol Sherwood” in which the congressman’s wife decries the political commercials that refer to her husband’s affair.

The six-paragraph typed note signed by Carol Sherwood – her first public comment on her husband’s affair – accuses Democratic challenger Chris Carney of using “negative campaigning” and “a personal attack” in political ads centered on her husband’s affair with a younger woman who claimed the congressman abused her.

“The negative ads approved by Chris Carney seem to be needlessly cruel. Private humiliation is one thing to endure, but to be repeatedly, publicly humiliated is quite another,” the letter reads. “When somebody hurts one of us, he hurts everyone in the family. Perhaps Carney gets some pleasure out of hurting our family, or maybe that’s what he thinks will make him a winner.”

Sherwood, 65, a four-term Republican from Tunkhannock, has admitted to a five-year affair with 30-year-old Cynthia Ore, but denied Ore’s allegations that he repeatedly assaulted her. Sherwood and Ore agreed to a confidential, out-of-court lawsuit settlement last November.

2. That's like blaming the "other woman". Your creep husband runs ads
apologizing for the affair, but that's okay.

7. My personal note to Carol Sherwood
If you are repeatedly, publicly humiliated, let me tell you that the source of that humiliation is not Chris Carney; I suggest you check first on the other side of the bed for that source.

But in a larger sense, your humiliation is just another point on the continuum begun by your husband's political party, which has turned the blood sport of character assassination into a parlor game, to be indulged at whim. Did you think you were immune from the slights and innuendos? Have you been in a coma for the last dozen years? You personally may or may not have had this coming; but statistically speaking, it was inevitable that some spouse of a Republican somewhere would have to swallow this bitter pill.

So suck it up, Carol. Tough it out. Your husband's party wrote the rules and set the standards of the game. And you've gotten a nice home and a financially secure life out of the deal so far. Some people, like Vince Foster and Susan McDougal, didn't get anything like that.

8. From the party of Family Values and Personal Responsibility

It's not Don's fault he had the affair, it's not Don's fault he chocked his mistress, it's not Don's fault he paid his mistress off.

Those mean Democrats just don't know when to quit!

12. I thought that was "Edgar Winter's Super Summer Blonde #10"
If that's peroxide, she used enough to decontaminate an average metropolitan hospital.

9. Carney needs to keep hitting that theme
Over and over.

Forget the stupid focus groups- attack ads like this work- because they're true and they point out that smarmy Republicans can (and WILL) dish it out, but can't take it.

And, BTW I feel ZERO sympathy for Carol Sherwood. She married a far right asshole. What did she expect?

Honor and fidelity. LOL.

13. Yeah, she'd better stand by her husband, if she knows what's good for her!
If Sherwood beats his mistress, who he slept with for fun, can you imagine how he abuses his wife, who he has to live with, even when he's not horny?
