WP:The Year Of Playing Dirtier (Negative Ads Get Positively Surreal)
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 10:44 PM by Beetwasher
Well, that's what the Republican challenger for his Wisconsin congressional seat, Paul R. Nelson, claims in new ads, the ones with "XXX" stamped across Kind's face.

It turns out that Kind -- along with more than 200 of his fellow hedonists in the House -- opposed an unsuccessful effort to stop the National Institutes of Health from pursuing peer-reviewed sex studies. According to Nelson's ads, the Democrat also wants to "let illegal aliens burn the American flag" and "allow convicted child molesters to enter this country."

To Nelson, that doesn't even qualify as negative campaigning.

"Negative campaigning is vicious personal attacks," he said in an interview. "This isn't personal at all."

By 2006 standards, maybe it isn't.

2. I posted a similar thread about the last minute insanity of these
ads, which are appearing around the country. Really inane (and insane) stuff -- portraying Dems as soft on sex offenders (oh, the irony!), gearing up for in-state college tuition for illegal aliens, etc. They should be over the top in their screeching by election day. Maybe some Bushbots will be turned off. One can dream.

4. Corker's radio ad says H. Ford will give "abortion pills" to schoolchildren.
:wtf:

Karl Rove has been such an inspiration to "change the tone," don't you all agree? :eyes:

6. Ah, I See The Post Still Can't See The Forest Through The Trees
They try to compare a nationalized campaign by the RNC to run over-the-top ridiculous attack ads with a few frivolous ones made by low-level Democrats. Apples to oranges.

When they are honest and say that the negative tone is the baby that belongs to Republicans, then I'll take them seriously.

7. I am SOOOO sick of these ads. Only the Dem ads say anything

worthwhile. The repub ads are just attacks - BTW, I'm in DE but all we're getting on TV is Swann/Rendell, Santorum/Casey, Weldin/Sestack, and slams against Lois Murphy. I hate turning the boob tube on. We already know what the dems are saying, the repubs are pretty near all lies or half-truths with no explanation (except for when they say "I'm xxx and I approve this message"). I felt like putting my foot thru the television last night as I was trying to watch the news.

I'm wondering how even the lowest of the repub voters aren't turned off by the dirty nasty blatant ads by these oafs. Then I worry that there are a whole faction of people out there who are totally blind and deaf to anything that the repubs do and will only vote as told.

9. I noticed this on Hardball's report last night
There was implied balance between the level of outrageousness on the part of both parties, but even the Dem ads they used to illustrate this had REAL people discussing REAL issues and events -- not actors paid to look sleazy, making outrageous and inaccurate statements, imagined conversations and events, and catering to the most selfish, bigoted and hateful aspects of humanity.

Those were ALL the Republican ads - nasty, dirty, untrue, hateful and vicious.

This isn't a "they all do it" story -- I almost wish it were -- I wish the Dem ads were as hard-hitting on the FACTS as the Republican ads are on the falsehoods.

8. "Let illegal aliens burn the American flag"?
Might as well throw in "Let Muslim Terrorists rape grandmothers" and "Let sex offenders drive drunk."

12. Democrats fight back this election so the media makes negative ads deplorable.
How does using honesty and candor in pointing out your opponent’s actions and views make it “dirty” politics or evil? Where was the corporate whore media when they were “swiftboating” Kerry with complete lies? This is mostly bullshit.
