Witness says Noe moved $11.2M just before search
Article published Tuesday, October 31, 2006

By MIKE WILKINSON
BLADE STAFF WRITER

Just two days before Ohio authorities seized Tom Noe's assets after executing a search warrant last year, Noe transferred more than $11.2 million in rare coins out of the state-funded investment he managed, an ex-state employee said yesterday.

Scott Clark, a former fraud investigator for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, said he found six invoices written on May 24, 2005, involving the movement of coins to Noe's business, Vintage Coins and Collectibles, and to Noe himself.

The invoices were marked "return to owner," Mr. Clark said.

When investigators finally gained entry on May 26, 2005, Mr. Clark said those coins were gone.

5. Take a cab to the Westin as soon as you disembark

They'll try to corral you to the Royal Palms, which is okay, but the beach at the Westin is less crowded and you can walk north a few blocks (along the water, on 7 Mile Beach) to Cemetary Reef...excellent snorkelling you can swim out to (100 yards & marked by buoys). If you don't snorkel now, get some equipment and try it in the tub. This is what you'll see, except for the shark, and plus octopi if you look hard enough:http://www.caymanactivityguide.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=47783&highlight=#47783

We've got a week booked here in April:http://www.conqueredfame.com/ (click, scroll down, drool)

It's our 7th or 8th visit. PM w/ q's if you have them.

8. First cruise for us--any and all tips appreciated,
but we're not really beach and snorkeling kind of people. Anything in town worth seeing?

9. Sure, but consider learning to snorkel -- they'll have lessons

on the boat and it's easy. Don't go over 4 feet of water & you'll STILL see everything on that first (fish identifier) link, especially if you toss some cereal in the water.

What's your itinerary? If it's the ususal, here's the plan: shop in Mexico, unless you want expensive designer items. Do your beach/water stuff in Cayman. 100 foot visibility, like bathwater, usually very still. Do any beach biz in the a.m., as downtown Georgetown is a madhouse when the ships come in, shopping-wise, especially in the morning. Stroll around downtown for lunch & afterwards--less crowded. Get some Cayman coins (everybody takes US $ & gives change in US or Cayman, just ask) they're beautiful & make great refrigerator magnets. The stamps are cool too & the post office is a few blocks away from the harbor.Georgetown is not dangerous to stroll, btw. Cayman has a higher standard of living per-capita than the US.

Last (or first) stop is Jamaica, right? It is simply gorgeous--mountains, beaches, everything, except the towns. Lots of poverty. I find the Jamaicans to be very funny, friendly and extremely persistent salespeople. Don't pay the asking price for ANYTHING on Jamaica--if you don't bargain, you're a sucker there. Get a cold bottle of Red Stripe at a beach bar-- there will be a cricket match on the radio or TV (do NOT ask them to to change it. It's insulting & they won't do it, anyway.) and just kick back.

Unless it's a real doozy, don't book land excursions though the ship. You'll end up paying triple the real cost and feel like cattle. Get off the ship w/ your new cruise pals or just yourselves and find a taxi (they'll find you, actually). Make a deal for wherever you want to go, do, & see and for a return pickup to the harbor.

No worries.

Edit to add: Cayman weather, info, message board, discount coupons (good ones!) and webcam here:http://www.caymanactivityguide.com/forums/General_Questions-forum21.html

Looks drizzly today and those are big waves for 7 Mile Beach, honest! LOL

2. I'm very confused here...
2 say coins were theirs, Noe records were false

<SNIP>

Prosecutors believe Noe embezzled more than $2 million from the coin funds he managed from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. They say he used the money to pay off debt and to fund his lifestyle.

<SNIP>

WTF? If I can count right there's a hell of a lot more that 2 million missing.

6. I smell rehab!
Time to check into Hazelden, Tommy. You'll like it there. Then the tearful press conference about demon alcohol, toss in a tidbit about how your enemies are trying to destroy you, maybe hint that you were abused as a kid, then let the Mighty Republican Wurlitzer wheeze into action to bad-mouth anyone who regards the timing of your true confession with the least bit of skepticism.
