Incident at Allen Campaign Stop in Charlottesville (asked about spitting on wife)
since the press hasn't had the balls to ask the question...

Incident at Allen Campaign Stop in Charlottesville

Senator George Allen, (R) made a campaign stop in Charlottesville Tuesday morning and it was met with controversy.

As Senator Allen was exiting a ballroom, coming to talk to the media, a protestor started yelling and asking, "Why did you spit on your first wife?". He wasn't able to get near the senator as he was tackled by three men wearing Allen stickers, presumed to be staffers. He was pushed and manhandled and ended up on the floor, near windows at the Omni.

Senator Allen went back into a conference room and after the man was removed from the building, we were able to talk to Allen and asked him what he thought of the incident. He responded saying stuff like that happens.

1. Is Webb still sending cameras to cover Allen?
That would be a nice piece of video.

10. There are several questions the media is ignoring:
1. Why are Allen's divorce papers sealed?

2. What were the arrest warrants all about?

3. What is his response to allegations of abuse by his sister in her 2000 book?

As soon as Webb started gaining in the polls, the media went silent on Allen's character. Too bad it takes a protester at a campaign event to bring this up.

22. and the coverage of the incident
ignored the question asked and just focused on the assault by Allen's thugs.

Looks like it's up to us to keep bringing up the real questions.

24. And the worst part of the coverage of the
incident was that no one reporting on it expressed any outrage that a man who was only trying to ask a question was roughed up in such a callous way.

14. This reminds me of something...
He apparantly did something similar to a local Va. reporter:

"George Allen Spit at Me"

...I stepped near the governor and smiled, told him my name and that I wrote for the local newspaper. Then I asked him a softball question, what some reporters call a "set-up."

"Does Southwest Virginia need these jobs?" I asked.

He stopped and looked straight at me. He had to look down at me, because he stood so tall in those cowboy boots. I thought I spotted a twinkle in his eye, and for a moment, I suspected he might give a humorous, light-hearted answer. Then he leaned forward and looked all the way down at the pavement. I figured he was planning a perfectly crafted answer to my question. I put pen to paper, ready to take it down. His lips puckered as if he might speak.

Then, the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia gathered up a glob of tobacco-laced saliva. He used his lips to squirt it out, as if he had practiced. The spit landed just at the tip of my shoe. He grinned, but didn't say a word. Then he walked into the building. ...

Writing for a newspaper has let me talk to all kinds of people. Most of them have been solid, honest, hardworking citizens. But I have been close enough to murderers to smell their body odors and count their freckles. I have looked into the eyes of rapists, burglars, cheaters, people who started fires, wrecked cars and trucks - even people who molested little kids.

Not one of them spit at me.

The only person who did is a millionaire with an RV and a nice suit who says he wants to be President of the United States one day. I'm not sure if I know what to think about that."

17. Here's another one:
From "Pin Prick" by Ryan Lizza (a profile of George Allen) that appeared in The New Republic 4/27/06:

"Allen turns away and spits a long brown streak of saliva into the dirt, just missing one of his constituents, a....ponytailed woman approaching the Senator for an autograph. She stops in her tracks and stares with disgust at the bubbly tobacco juice that almost landed on her feet. Without missing a beat, Allen's communications director, John Reid, reassures her, 'That's just authenticity!'

Authenticity, my ass. The mark of an arrogant, rude bastard who gets off on not-so-subtly humiliating people. "Here's my spit. Deal with it."

Don't even want to imagine what he does in private. Are all Republicans loathsome?

19. The alleged "protester" was blogger Mike Stark
HE was no "protester", but blogger Mike Stark asking Allen to answer questions about the abuse of his first wife.

Allen's staffers violently manhandled Stark, as can be seen in this video:

25. The coverage of the incident speaks volumes
about how low the whore media has sunk. Not one reporter expressed any surprise, let alone indigation, that a citizen asking a question had been manhandled that way. In fact, the coverage I saw was quick to point out that Allen hadn't been hurt - as though Stark was some sort of physical threat to Allen - which was absolute bullshit.

26. I just watched a video of the "event" on CNN. While they didn't
specifically condemn the aggression against Stark, they were quoting what the Allen campaign said happened - which was clearly at odds with the video. It almost seemed tongue in cheek. That was very impactful to me. They said Stark was going to press charges.
