Former AIG boss eyeing NY Times takeover: CNBC
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Maurice Greenberg, the former head of insurer American International Group Inc. (AIG.N: Quote, Profile, Research) is interested in launching a takeover for all of New York Times Co. (NYT.N: Quote, Profile, Research), CNBC television reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed sources.

The report came after the New York Post said that Greenberg has been buying shares of the company to try to break the Sulzberger family's hold on the media group.

2. He was once considered to head the CIA
Insurance companies used to do a lot of the spying overseas before it's inception.

In fact - Michael Rupport used to have a story on his website about AIG and the CIA running drugs thru the Cayman Islands.

3. I thought he was after Tribune?
Eli Broad, who sold his giant SunAmerica to AIG, was looking into Tribune (LA Times; local LA TV station; Chicago Tribune and a baseball team?). Then I heard Greenberg was looking at Tribune too. Broad is a Dem... a billionaire Dem... Greenberg always struck me as a crook... he just looks like one.

6. That would be "disgraced former AIG boss"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_R._Greenberg#Fraud_allegation

On March 15, 2005, AIG's board forced Greenberg to resign from his post as Chairman and CEO under the shadow of criticism from Eliot Spitzer, attorney general of New York State. On May 26, 2005, as part of a series of actions against leaders of large corporations, Spitzer filed a complaint against Greenberg, AIG, and Howard I. Smith (ex-CFO of AIG) alleging fraudulent business practice, securities fraud, common law fraud, and other violations of insurance and securities laws....

Spitzer did, however, bring civil charges against Greenberg, though he dropped two of the six initial charges in September, 2006<2>. Greenberg's attorney claimed vindication with the dropping of the two charges, but Spitzer's office maintained that the four remaining charges are the core of the state's original charges.

not to mention his CFR and Trilateral connections:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_R._Greenberg#Other_public_positions

Mr. Greenberg is Honorary Vice Chairman and Director of the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of David Rockefeller's Trilateral Commission. In the 1980s, his extensive foreign connections prompted the Reagan administration to offer him a job as Deputy Director of the CIA, which he declined.
