Hanging 'intellectual stimulation'
February 2, 2007 - 10:38AM

The US military says photos and articles of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's execution were shown to David Hicks and other Guantanamo Bay inmates as "intellectual stimulation".

Hicks's legal team was outraged during this week's visit to the US prison camp to learn Hicks had viewed photos of Saddam's execution and trial.

US Commander Robert Durand, director of public affairs at Guantanamo Bay, today described the articles and photos available to the inmates as "neither graphic nor sensational".

1. sick, twisted.... I am so disgusted by the actions being taken in my name.
Torture, rendition, killing being passed off as "brought to justice" - last I checked JUSTICE required a Court of Law, charges, evidence the accused could see and challenge, and that old standby - innocent until proven guilty.

:grr:

2. Come on Democrats!
Top priority should be to close down Gitmo. Worst US PR campaign ever! So far not one word from our elected "Representatives." What's up with that?

4. Apparently, our country
has become overtaken by a bunch of sadistic, sick people. This is not normal. We are being subjected to the whims of the mentally deranged, and none are more deranged than Bush and Cheney. It's shameful, to think that they represent our country to the rest of the world. Our extremely high rate of incarceration, and zeal for imposing the death penalty already made the world view us as little more than barbarians, and the government's actions under the current cabal only intensifies that view.

What has happened to us? How did we allow this to happen? I can't believe that our own Dems keep saying that impeachment is "off the table." It damn well better be put back on the table, if we are to remain a democracy. Otherwise, we'll be no better than Nazi Germany.

They are War Criminals who belong on a hangman's stage with ropes around their necks.

They are cruel evil beasts, screw them.

6. U.S. Removes Saddam Photo From Gitmo (Forbes)
By MICHAEL MELIA 02.01.07, 10:52 PM ET

A news report about Saddam Hussein's execution was removed from a recreation area at the Guantanamo Bay detention center after a detainee's lawyer accused officials of using it to frighten prisoners, a U.S. military spokesman said Thursday.

Authorities also removed an Arabic-language poster that depicted Saddam's capture, court appearances and death sentence, said Navy Cmdr. Robert Durand, a Guantanamo Bay spokesman.

The military decided the poster "appeared insensitive" and did not belong in the recreation area, where authorities post information about current events for detainees ...
