SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The U.S. military prepared new charges Friday against three of the best-known detainees at Guantanamo Bay, including Canadian Omar Khadr – a key step toward resuming the military tribunals for terrorism suspect that were halted by the Supreme Court last year.

Authorities drafted new charges that include murder, conspiracy and providing material support for terrorism, against Khadr, Australian David Hicks and Salim Ahmed Hamdan of Yemen, said Air Force Col. Morris Davis, chief prosecutor in the Guantanamo war crimes trials.

Under military rules, the charges are not considered formally filed against the detainees until they are approved by a U.S. Department of Defence legal adviser and another official who oversees the military tribunals of Guantanamo detainees.

That process is expected to take two weeks, Davis said. Court hearings are not expected to begin at Guantanamo until at least the spring.

1. Omar Khadr
Omar Ahmed Khadr (born September 16, 1987 in Ottawa), is a Canadian teenager who was captured by American forces in Afghanistan. He is among the youngest prisoners held in extrajudicial detention in the United States Guantánamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba. Khadr's Guantanamo detainee ID is 766.

3. A master terrorist, in US custody from age 15. Charge: threw grenade in firefight.
Apparently one of the three most obviously dangerous people in Guantanamo

2. Again, what's the difference between US military and Hitler's Wehrmacht?
Edited on Fri Feb-02-07 09:47 PM by IndianaGreen
German troops in Occupied Europe did this sort of thing too!

The Guantanamo concentration camp is an international disgrace, a center of torture and abuse. The troops that serve there have brought shame to the uniform they wear, and to the country they are supposed to serve.

This would have never happened when I served! Different military led by people that respected the Constitution, rather than blindly follow a Fuehrer.

5. Give it a Break...
It ain't history and your avatar is getting stale...

Yeah...disgraced uniforms and the fascist shit hole that you actually have to live with day in and day out will never change no matter how many times you invoke 'german' refs in your replies...

Now let's count...

Since the OP is about the miscarriage of American law under a democratic Congress...let's count KKKarl's refs

SUB: US Military/Wehrmacht (header)
Keyword Search: 'Occupied Europe' 'German troops' 'concentration camp' 'Fuehrer'

Did YOU© post enuff today?

6. The Geneva Convention was part of our military doctrine
and we took an oath to the Constitution, not to the Commander in Chief.

You are defending the indefensible!

4. Come on Democrats!
This Congress should make it the top priority to shut down Gitmo. It is not good PR for the ol' USA.
Where are our Democrats on this?...I've heard nothing from any of them. We've got the majority, draw up the resolution, vote it in. Do I have to write it for you? How about this:

Resolved by majority vote, The President is ordered to immediately move all detainees at Guantanamo Bay to the Mainland USA and housed in either POW Camps for Afghanis or Iraqis or US Federal prisons for everybody else. Those sent to US Federal prisons with be charged with a crime, set up with a public defender, and given a court date within two days. Those not charged will be turned over to the embassy of the country of citizenship, those of countries not represented in the US will be turned over to the United Nations representative of said country.
The prisons at Guantanamo will be closed and abandoned from now until eternity.
