Ex-NYPD officer Charles Schwarz with his wife, Andra, outside court in Brooklyn as jury deliberated in 2002 on assault case. Schwarz will serve out rest of sentence in Louima case in upstate halfway house.
Disgraced ex-NYPD cop Charles Schwarz has been quietly released from federal prison to a halfway house, where he is serving the remainder of his sentence for lying in the Abner Louima police torture case, the Daily News has learned.
Schwarz, 41, was transferred in December from the minimum security Federal Prison Camp at Duluth, Minn., to a halfway house in upstate New York, where he has found a job, sources told The News.
His wife, Andra, and their 2-year-old son, William, have rented an apartment so the family can be close together, a source said.
Reached for comment yesterday, Louima said he bears no ill will toward the convicted cop.
"Justice was served," Louima said in a telephone interview. "I wish him all the best to move on with his life. I don't have anything against him." Schwarz has steadfastly maintained his innocence, even though he admitted in Brooklyn Federal Court that his lies aided the coverup following the 1997 attack.
"I really don't care what he says," Louima said.
