340,000 Flee Deadly Floods In Indonesia''s Capital
Rescuers and volunteers have struggled to help nearly 340,000 Indonesians left homeless by devastating floods, triggered by heavy rains in and around Jakarta, which have killed 20 people, reports AFP.

With more rain forecast, authorities put the capital on high alert and police deployed 12,600 extra personnel equipped with helicopters, inflatable boats and rafts to assist with evacuation efforts across the city.

Many residents escaped their homes on inner tubes, children''s inflatable paddling pools and makeshift rafts, or by wading through the floods rather than wait for help to arrive.

1. Exporting all that fine exotic timber is catching up to them. nt
even if it's only used to make shipping pallets, its a waste of natural resources that is biting their ass.

2. But what do you bet the people who are flooded out had no part in deciding to cut those trees, and
made none of the profits from the sale of the lumber -- the people who made the financial gain from the deforestation are living high and dry in their palatial homes, I would imagine....

3. My definition of "them" is the govt. body allowing deforestation
of the nation.
Chances are those now homeless suffered from and were part of the trickle down economics of the overall deforestation timber industry.
( no pun intended )

6. What's the problem? Flooding is perfectly normal there, right?
