Four held over Iranian diplomat kidnapping
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Four Iraqi military officers have been detained over the kidnapping of an Iranian diplomat in Baghdad, Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has said.

"Those detained are (Iraqi) military officers. But there is some questioning about their affiliations and who is ordering them to do these things," Zebari told reporters Wednesday.

"There are doubts that the four are affiliated with government entities," he added, without elaborating.

Jalal Sharafi, 40, the second secretary at the Iranian embassy in Baghdad, was abducted in Karrada, a predominantly Shiite southeastern district of the capital, on Sunday by gunmen dressed in Iraqi army uniforms.

3. Oh great, the kidnappers were real Iraqi soldiers.
They wore the uniforms of the U.S.-controlled 36th Commando Battalion,
a major component of counterinsurgency efforts in Baghdad. If they
are genuine, this incident is one huge mess.

If Americans did not authorize the raid, they certainly encouraged it
by word and by example. This diplomat had better turn up unharmed very
soon.

4. They are turning us into an international pariah.
1) They unilaterally breached the ABM treaty with Russia.
2) They launched a pre-emptive war against a sovereign nation against international objection
3) They have flouted the Geneva Convention on treatment of POWs
4) They have advocated the use of torture
5) They have denied prisoners the right of habeus corpus
6) They refused to sign an agreement banning secret prisons

I know I'm forgetting many other things. Their record is horrific.

6. Thanks for privatizing our defense, Cheney and crime family
Thanks to your efforts to make government more efficient through privatization, a number of players can play a number of games at our expense.

7. Thom Hartmann - just talking about this
The fact that these troops were under American control is enough to suspect that this is another attempt to provoke war with Iran.
