Iran arrests top Al Qaeda men

By Khalid Hasan

WASHINGTON: Two Al Qaeda operatives arrested by Iran while they were on their way to Iraq began their journey from Pakistan. Nothing is known about the activities of these two men in Pakistan or how long they were there and who was sheltering them. According to a front-page report in the Washington Post on Saturday, last week the CIA sent an urgent report to President Bush’s National Security Council saying that Iranian authorities had arrested two Al Qaeda operatives

<snip>

“The arrests were presented to Bush’s senior policy advisers as evidence that Iran appears committed to stopping Al Qaeda’s foot traffic across its borders,” said the intelligence official.

That assessment comes at a time when the Bush administration is preparing to publicly accuse Tehran of cooperating with and harbouring Al Qaeda suspects,” said the Post, adding that US officials had asserted for years that several dozen Al Qaeda fighters, including Osama Bin Laden’s son, slipped across the Afghan border into Iran after 9/11, and Tehran was holding them under house arrest as “bargaining chips” for potential deals with Washington. Some of the men being held by Iran are high-value fugitives. Osama Bin Laden’s son Saad is also being held with other prisoners in Iran.

The report said that since Al Qaeda fighters began streaming into Iran, Tehran had turned over hundreds of people to US allies and provided US intelligence with the names, photographs and fingerprints of those it held in custody.

1. "See, there's Al-Qaeda in Iran!" "But, they're in prison." "...Your point?"
(Paraphrased from fictional - but quite possible - conversations inside the White House.)

4. I prefer to believe Al Queda is a partner of the Bush admin.
The guys just arrested by Iran could have been on a mission to free bin Laden's son (if it's true he is in prison in Iran) before we start the bombing that our traitorous leaders are planning.

Who is saying that Iran turns over prisoners and information on them to us? Are our leaders saying that? Then, we don't know if it's a lie. They have zero credibility.

I think something stinks - it is impossible to play all the balls the way we're doing it.

Iranians are Shias.
We are partnering with Shias in Iraq.

We call those who kill us in Iraq as Al Queda or Sunni.
But we don't do a thing about finding bin Laden and we have a grand game going about capturing their other leaders.

Iran isn't letting Al Queda in? How do they identify them - about as good as we do?

Someone can do better at presenting this -
bottom line -
there is no coherency to anything we're doing (except the coherency of trying to salvage the big oil strikes and transfers, plus the contracts and bases) with our kids and thousands of innocent deaths of descendents of The Cradle of Civilization.

It is obvious we have secret alignments that are all backwards in the way the reverse and disways of the truth is used against us - we're a nation in near-bankruptcy and they just tick along like Mr. Duracell.

We have the two George's and their frineds in the middle holding hands with Israel on one side and Saudi Arabia on the other.

Israel wants Iran and Syria destroyed. Saudi Arabia goes right along with perpetual war and big money friendships while they pretend not to see Israel.

Who knows the truth about capturing two AQ guys?

I like that the memo was send with URGENCY!

7. answer to one question
It would be fairly easy to figure out who the "Al Quieda" guys are...all they have to do is begin talking. Persians speak Farsi, which is an Indo-European language, not Arabic.

9. Maybe -we- could not tell the difference
but the Iranians probably know what/who to look for. I am willing to bet the people they are capturing blew their cover, somehow. Remember, the origins of AQ are Saudi Wahabis (Arabs). They and the Shiia don't get along at all.

The west likes to make a lot of the different ethnic groups within Iran. What they don't understand is the Iranian/Persian peoples are very nationalistic. They are Iranian first, then whatever group/family/religion, etc. second. They are proud of their history, even if they do think the current government is a bunch of idiots.

As to the area, I don't need to be told, I lived in Tehran for a year, and my step-father is from Iran. I also still have relatives still living there.

10. Yes, Al-Qaeda are Bush-Cheney's go-to guys
when they need a casus belli. They catch the little guys but leave the leadership and financiers in place.

6. So we are to believe
that Iran is supplying the "insurgents" with weapons. While they capture and either jail or turn over to U.S. allies top A.Q. members. Okie Dokie.
