U.S. soldier killed northeast of Baghdad
BAGHDAD, Iraq - A U.S. soldier was killed Sunday after coming under small-arms fire northeast of Baghdad, the military said, raising the monthly American death toll to 37.

The Task Force Lightning forces were conducting combat operations in Diyala province when insurgents attacked. The soldier was shot and later died of the wounds, the military said in a statement.

The soldier's name was not released pending notification of relatives.
