Rep. Hoyer: Vote on Iraq will be limited

1 hour, 8 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - A House vote on
Iraq this week will be limited to the question of supporting
President Bush's troop escalation, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (news, bio, voting record) said Sunday.

Hoyer's comment drew a vehement objection from House Minority Leader John Boehner (news, bio, voting record), R-Ohio, who said House Democrats had promised to allow a vote this week on a Republican alternative opposing a cutoff of money for the war.

Hoyer, D-Md., said such a vote would occur later.

"Live up to your word," Boehner told Hoyer. Democrats, Boehner said, "won't even let us have a substitute. ... Give us a vote this week."

4. well, All Republicans will have a chance to debate
which is not what the Democrats had for 6 years, and the classified info on the war will
be released to ALL members, Boehner is having a cow because they will have to go on record
for their support of the war, which is not what they want to do, he didn't even commit
to a plan of action if the surge fails, other than mouthing the mantra that he was committed
to victory in Iraq, how does he plan to do that, it looks to me like the Bush/Cheney/Hadley plan is shipping men over there w/o adequate training, equipment for a lifetime commitment.

Oh, and does Rove comment about his son not making beds or picking tomatos extend to
fighting as well.

5. Why are our leaders paying any attention to them?
This bipartisan crap of theirs is entirely one way. We've listend for the last week to their swifplaning of pelosi, and watched them humiliate Reid over on the Senate side. They have to earn our respect before we should allow them any oppostunity to do anything in the House, and currently they are just digging themselves deeper into a hole.

He didn't seem so outraged all these past years when the Democrats were forced to conduct meetings in the Capitol Building's broom closets.

12. Hoyer Puts Republicans in a Bind Over War

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0207/2707.html

Hoyer Puts Republicans in a Bind Over War

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Sunday the upcoming debate over the Iraq war will be confined to four straight days of arguing over President Bush's escalation of the military campaign.

Hoyer used an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" to break a promise he made publicly late last week to allow Republicans a vote of their choice pertaining to the war effort. In doing so, Hoyer dramatically increased tensions in the war over war and thrust Republicans into a defensive crouch heading into this week's showdown over troop levels.

"We believe the American public wants a straightforward answer to the question, 'Do you agree with the president's proposal?'" Hoyer said.

Hoyer, a Democrat from Maryland, said Republicans will be prohibited from forcing a vote on an alternative resolution opposing cutting off funding for U.S. troops in Iraq.

13. I like this paragraph:
"Either way, it will be a tough week for the White House. Many Republicans are planning speeches that are harshly critical of President Bush's handling of the Iraq war -- but stop short of outright opposition to the escalation. Virtually every Democrat plans to attack Bush, Republicans and the war."
