Iraqi court sentences Saddam aide to die

BAGHDAD, Iraq - An Iraqi court on Monday raised the sentence against Saddam Hussein's
vice president to death by hanging for the killings of Shiites in the town of Dujail.

The decision had been expected after an appeals court ruled that Taha Yassin Ramadan's
previous sentence of life in prison was too lenient.

Saddam, his half brother and former intelligence chief Barzan Ibrahim, and Awad Hamed
al-Bandar, former head of Iraq's Revolutionary Court, were sent to the gallows in the case.

It's still hard to believe this much killing could happen in one lifetime. The appetite to harm others is simply evil, even if you pompously claim it's punishment they deserve.

Hanging just seems like a gruesome spectator sport to me. It also seems to me that Iraqis don't have a clue how to properly conduct a hanging, if there is such a thing as a "properly conducted hanging." Ewwww.
