Bush tries to convince world no plans for Iran war

By Steve Holland 1 hour, 34 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
President George W. Bush is trying to convince the world he has no intention of invading
Iran, but is running into skeptics who see U.S. charges that Iran is shipping bombs into
Iraq as a step toward conflict.

Having ordered two aircraft carriers to the Gulf and accused Iranians of providing Iraqi militants bombs that have killed 170 Americans, Bush and his top aides are struggling to tamp down talk that a new war is brewing.

Bush himself prompted the talk in a January 10 speech outlining his reworked Iraq strategy, by saying "Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces."

A debate has since raged over whether he has an attack on Iran in mind. "Next Stop Iran?" asked The Economist magazine's cover this week over a picture of a U.S. military aircraft in flight.

1. He said the same thing about Iraq and we know it was a lie.
Why should anyone believe this asshole for a second? We all KNOW what's in the works.

4. What you said!
Bottom line afaic! Not only should we NOT believe a damn thing he says, but why the hell is he allowed to continue in this war (occupation) of lies? He's the one who made it all go FUBAR! Since when is it a good idea for the idiot who screwed something up to be allowed to attempt a fix?

Now we are seeing history repeat, and everyone is letting it happen! W?T?F?!!?!???!???!???!

2. Well, if * wants credibility:
1) Recall the three aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf,
2) Immediately start talks with Iran.
3) Publicly tell Israel that the U.S. is neutral with respect to existing disputes -- and mean it.
4) Stop trying to provoke Iran into attacking any of our military or nonmilitary interests.
5) Start rebuilding the intrastructure of Iraq and start imprisoning Haliburton for embezzlement.

For starters.

6. Bush "No plans for Iraq attack" - May 24, 2002
http://archives.tcm.ie/irishexaminer/2002/05/24/story29077.asp

"‘‘There are no concrete military plans for attacks on Iraq, so no reason for me to speculate,’’ said Mr Schroeder, with Mr Bush at his side.

Mr Bush added: ‘‘I told the chancellor that I have no war plans on my desk, which is the truth.’’

But options for an Iraq operation are well known to be under review in the Pentagon and Mr Bush did not rule it out."

13. uh huh - no war plans on his desk
but that doesn't meet there are no plans in place to provoke an attack BY Iran and then claim our reaction is a defensive one. The Bastard.

8. Cordesman: "The signals are more about deterrence than anything else"
It's quite clear from the content that they are trying to stop the flow of money and arms (into Iraq), not trying to provide a war with Iran. If anything, the signals are more about deterrence than anything else," he said.

What is up with Cordesman? Sometimes he seems reasonable, other times he carries water for the Bush mob.

18. Anthony Cordesman...
...is a good audio reviewer*, but only a mediocre foreign analyst. And being on McCain's payroll...don't you expect him to go back and forth between being a Bush shill and taking an "independent" position? :eyes:

*(No joke -- he has written for several of the top audio magazines.)

15. I am convinced of absolutely nothing said by this administration.
They speak in lies or they speak in terms meant to decieve...this they are quite adept at. Who knows, perhaps there really are no intentions to go to war with Iran, perhaps this is further smoke and mirrors covering up things which they feel need to remain out of the publics eye.

I believe bushco WANTS to provoke Iran... this way more spending on our military will be in order and we all know who benefits from that!

16. Chickens coming home to roost, Georgie?
Hey, Georgie Dubby, remember that mangled speech you gave? The one about having a saying in TX, maybe it's in TN, too? About fooling you once? About fooling you again means you can't get fooled again? Did you have the slightest notion what you were saying? The whole rest of the world knows!
