U.S. soldier killed in fighting in Anbar province, military says

BAGHDAD, Iraq: A U.S. soldier was killed in fighting in Anbar province,
the military said Tuesday.

The Multi-National Force-West soldier died Sunday while conducting combat
operations in the insurgent stronghold west of Baghdad, the military said
in a brief statement that did not provide more details.

The soldier's identity was not released pending notification of relatives.

The death raises to at least 3,126 members of the U.S. military who have
died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated
Press count.
