Iraqis question US bodycount
US troops and Iraqi police in Samarra have offered widely differing versions of an overnight incident on the edge of the town, about 125 kilometres west of Baghdad.

The US military says a patrol battled through what it termed a complex ambush in the town, killing 11 attackers.

They said their forces emerged unscathed and caused no damage in the town.

But Iraqi police and medical officials have reported just one dead Iraqi and one wounded after the incident, saying there were no attackers.

Residents say the army shot up their homes and vehicles.

3. Washington is laying it on thick!
We're getting "body counts," "spirder holes," "welcome from President Bush," "hands in surrender," and many other bromides. They'll run out, I'd say, except in the world of propaganda, there is no limit to what one can say. What will happen is that reality will eventually veto the official line. Reality has a way of doing that.

I've been watching NewsInternation all day and the news in most of Iraq's large cities show thousands of Iraqis protesting the U.S. forces. The pictures are quite nasty. Baghdad is about the only one where things are reasonable toned down.

A US military supply train had been jacked. After the engine was hit by a rocket, scores of Iraqis ran up and cleared off all the supplies.
