Former BNP candidate 'stockpiled explosives for civil war'
A former British National Party election candidate admitted stockpiling explosive chemicals today for an anticipated civil war in Britain.
...
Opening the case for the prosecution, Louise Blackwell QC said Cottage's wife had told how he wanted to shoot Prime Minister Tony Blair and local Liberal Democrat peer Lord Greaves.

Miss Blackwell said Kerena Cottage suffered mental health problems and told a social worker her husband had several crossbows and chemicals stored in his home.
...
During the swoop they discovered 21 types of chemicals which, when mixed together, could form explosives.

They also recovered a 300-page computer document called the Anarchy Cookbook which detailed how to make different types of bombs.

(By the way, 'former' means '5 months before the arrests' - see http://www.pendle.gov.uk/site/scripts/documents_info.php?documentID=286&pageNumber=2 . And note that on an election ward that elected 2 councillors, Cottage came 3rd, beating both the Conservative and Labour party candidates).

1. He didn't try to take a family size tube of toothpaste unto a plane so he can't be a threat.
Also there are no signs that he is a Muslim. Much ado about nothing, then. :sarcasm:

2. there are more registered stormfront members
in the british isles than any other country outside of the usa. i`m not surprized at this at all. here in the states we seem to discount the aryan nation types when it come to reporting their arrests but if it`s a brown person then it`s news

3. I notice
they managed to do this without shooting him in the process. But of course, he wasn't innocent or muslim.

6. Plus his arrest never made the national news.
The British media found the question of muslim woman's veils much more interesting at the time.

4. Ahh yes.
That'll be the would-be terrorist that all the UK news media were crowing about for weeks/ TV Sat vans camped in his street etc. etc.

Big picture of him and an accomplice on the BBC news main web page

...oh, hang on....wrong "terrorist" it seems.

Guess those brown terrorists are just somehow more photogenic?

5. I use to have a copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook.
It's been around since at least the 70's and I've seen it for sale at local gun shows lots of times.

9. Ok thanks..
I'm at work (just sneaking a peek at DU when I can).

I remember the original arrest only made a couple of the local rags even though it was a record haul of bomb-making chemicals (and one paper even mentioned that he had a rocket launcher!)
