Iraq invasion plan 'delusional'
BBC News

The US invasion plan for Iraq envisaged that only 5,000 US troops would remain in Iraq by December 2006, declassified Central Command documents show. The material also shows that the US military projected a stable, pro-US and democratic Iraq by that time.

The August 2002 material was obtained by the National Security Archive (NSA). Its officials said the plans were based on delusional assumptions.

The US currently has some 132,000 troops in the violence-torn state.

...I'm glad the "adults" are in charge now...and they wonder why no one trust them...I'd like to see a list of WMDs that they were sure Iraq had before the war too...

1. Delusions running amok is this administration's modus operandi, be it
fiscal, other domestic or foreign policy and the proof is in the puddings cooked. :)

but isn't being delusional a necessary prerequisite for being a member of PNAC or AEI?

4. The material was from August 2002?
How incredibly strange. Because all that time, from August 2002 right up until the invasion was launched in March 2003, Bush and his assorted henchmen were busy denying that any such invasion was in the works or that there were any plans on Bush's desk for an invasion, and that all Saddam had to do was let George bone him up the ass on Al Jazeera, and everything would be peachy keen.

War plans from August 2002! Fascinating. I wonder if anyone in the media will even remember what they were being told and what they were writing and broadcasting from so very long ago?

6. According to Rumsfeld:
"That was then. And later, it was later. We knew what we knew as we knew it. When we didn't know, we didn't know, but we didn't know we didn't know. Now that is a known. We had to go with the plans we had. Were they the best plans? No. Could we have had better plans? Of course. But you have to go with the plans you have, not the plans you would like to have. Were we thinking outside the box? Sure. But we didn't have the box, so to think otherwise is just opinion and not doing. Next question?"

Hee hee....

24. Is that a verbatim quote?
It can't be, Rumsfeld wasn't that crazy, was he? Wait, no, I guess he was that crazy, wasn't he? :silly:

It's hard to separate fact from fiction with this bunch because there's absolutely no difference between what they call fact and real fiction. Real fiction? Everything is real fiction with them, starting with Bush's electoral "victories" right up to this very moment. Only they insist it's fact. Does any of that make sense?

I have to stop now ,it's starting to rub off on me. I can see why the world of a neo-con is so fucked up. :silly:

26. Another Rumsfeld quotation:
"Are you asking if Condie is rubbing off me? Well, sure. But it is always in private and this is still America. I don't get the way some of you people seem to think that 'if this is this or that', then it means 'one thing or the other'. My mind just doesn't work that way."

it's no wonder we're in the state we're in regarding Iraq. You can't argue with a sick mind and the Bush administration has nothing but sick minds throughout it.

understood either the Middle East situation or the nature of terrorism. They also do not understand the will of a people fighting to keep invaders/occupiers out of their country. They underestimated the old "pitchforks" defense theory. When it is your own country you are fighting for there are no options - fight to the death. No matter what we do in Iraq or Iran the people will not be defeated.

11. You want the WMD list? heheh...
It's still on the WH website.

- The U.N. and U.S. intelligence sources have known for some time that Saddam Hussein has materials to produce chemical and biological weapons, but he has not accounted for them:

* 26,000 liters of anthrax—enough to kill several million people
* 38,000 liters of botulinum toxin
* 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agents

- Almost 30,000 munitions capable of delivering chemical agents

- From three Iraqi defectors, we know that Iraq in the late 1990s had several mobile biological weapons labs. But he has not disclosed them.

- The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed in the 1990s that Saddam Hussein had an advanced nuclear weapons development program, a design for a nuclear weapon, and was working on methods of enriching uranium for a nuclear bomb. He recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa, according to the British Government. He has attempted to purchase high strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons, according to our intelligence sources. Yet he has not credibly explained these activities.

Disarm Saddam Hussein

23. I think these guys long ago abandoned the PNAC plan & goals.
They're going with a modified Grover Norquist plan. I think the plan now is to saddle the country with debt and wear out our military while creating a climate of impending war for the foreseeable future. The goal is to kill any possibility of the Democrats starting any new social programs by forcing us to spend whatever money we have to rebuild the military.
