Gallup: Bill Clinton's Popularity Nears New High (63%) -- But His Wife Trails Rudy
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003546300

Who even knew they tracked presidential approval ratings -- after the president leaves office? In any case, the folks at Gallup report today that Bill Clinton's approval rating, more than six years after leaving office, is near an all-time high.

His 63% approval rating is his highest since February 1998, and just short of his high mark, 66%, set just prior to his inauguration in 1993. His average as president was 57%. His current mark is slightly above that of his wife, Hillary Clinton, which currently stands at 58%.

3. Rudy has NEVER EVER been subjected to the swiftboating
that Hillary Clinton has received. The newspapers and network and cable TV pound her all the time. If any of the other candidates were subjected to this type of press where would they be.

4. You don't need to swiftboat him to bring down his numbers
There is plenty of information already out there that will sink him in the Republican primaries.

6. Plenty of info on him
and one thing with Rudy is his foot in mouth problem. Once he starts being asked questions and speaking more it's just waiting to happen. Didn't he blame the troops for the mess in Iraq just last year?

8. That will only happen if the press actually reports his answers.
Which I wouldn't bet on.

He's been annointed "American's Mayor". We don't need a mayor. We need a president - something we've been lacking for 6 years.

11. We'll get the press if
our candidates and the dems are out there pointing things out. The corporate media may not willingly bring it up but they can. We can help them along too!

17. No, We Won't. They OWN the Press

The Repiglican Media won't bring it up at all. They will change the subject when we try to do so.
They will continue to operate as a fully-integrated part of the Repiglican election stealing machine, just as they have for years.

We have to get our message out without any help whatsoever from the media.

13. Rudy and McCain are non-starters in the GOP primaries
especially given that the RW is convinced they lost last year because they weren't conservative enough.

5. I look at it this way
that he must have been some President if they won't leave him alone. Quite the contrast with W who is mired in the 30's and whose average would be under 50 if it weren't for his wars and 9-11 to give him his only higher ratings. Gotta note too that they never do polls asking if people want him as President now instead, or if Gore or Kerry would have been better. If it were the other way around we would have been seeing that poll for the past 6 years.

7. Well, the media have largely ignored the Republican candidates
Really and truly, when was the last time you saw an in-depth treatment of a Republican candidate and what he said to some group? There have been a few hagiographic pieces on "Maverick" John McCain and "Mayor of da World" Rudy Giuliani, but any real focus and analysis on their positions and their appearances? No. Certainly nothing like what Clinton, Obama and others on the Democratic side have experienced.

If Giuliani's numbers are higher than Ms. Clinton's, it's due almost entirely to the fact that there has been far more critical coverage of Ms. Clinton. The Republican candidates are all being given the grace and the space to work out any kinks in their early campaigns, without any scrutiny or critical analysis at all. Giuliani or McCain says something stupid on the hustings, and it's gone down the Memory Hole. Hardly even existed, like those heavy elements that are created for a few nanoseconds in a cyclotron. But Obama says that the lives of the KIAs in Iraq were wasted, and you'll hear about that almost as much as you hear about Anna Nicole Smith's naughty bits.

And they continue to do the same thing right up to election day. Why do you suppose George Bush** is in the White House?
They will NEVER give their annoited Repiglican any scrutiny at all!

The fact that our candidates are polling behind Guiliani already, even before the MSM has really gone to work on them, is extremely bad news for us.
It means that none of our currently-declared candidates is electable.

10. The majority of the public only knows Giuliani as..
the mayor of New York during 9/11, his approval ratings will plummet once people get to know more about him.

15. Is there a list of Bill Clinton's approval ratings by YEAR? I recall that BushInc
targeted both Clinton and Gore with opinion polls in the first months after 9-11 when it was popular in the media to blame Clinton while hoisting Bush on a pedestal.
