Mitt Romney Accepts Pat Robertson Speech Invite
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will speak at the commencement at Regent University, the school founded by religious broadcaster Pat Robertson.

Romney will address the graduates on May 5.

Robertson has not endorsed Romney, and Regent University does not endorse political candidates, Regent spokeswoman Sherri Stocks said.

2. It's an unwritten law of politics that (almost) any politician will kiss any
ass necessary to attain and hold onto office. Romney is no different than any of them.

Another case of this sickness is John McCain. Bob Jones University in South Carolina took a king-sized dump on him during the 2000 primaries while backing Bush. Nonetheless, McCain is kissing ass to get to speak there and show that he's a "true" (fundie) Republican.

The only thing more scarce than the memory of voters is Bush's brain power.

3. A Mormon speaking to Christians? Bible-believing Christians consider
Mormon religion to be anti-Christ. But then again, this is not about religion, this is all about corporate bottom-right politics.

4. Well, he couldn't turn down the invite could he...

I wouldn't want Pat Robertson coming after me with his super power legs and all...
besides, he has been threatening to kill people who don't comply with his will lately!

8. Maybe he'll get all "touchy-feely" with a cleansing and anointing
ceremony for them.

I wouldn't trust the judgment of a political leader who believed in that crap. Robertson's attempt to move Mormonism into mainstream to strengthen the political power of the far right is a bad idea, IMO.

Check out ex-mormons.org 's forum for stories from exes on the brainwashing, inappropriate touching, lack of privacy, and bizarre rules. The hypocrisy of how families treat their own when they announce they want to leave the church is another indication of how controlling they really are. I don't know of any other religion that treats people this way over matters of conscience.

7. Americans will vote for a black man or white woman before a mormon
Most americans consider the mormon religion to be whacky. It is.

9. I agree
having spent the first six months of 2005 in Utah. But explain how a follower of a wacky religion can get the state of Massachusetts (the only state that did NOT vote for Reagan in 1984) to elect him governor?

He's sneaky and tricky, this one. He just might outmanuever the entire rest of the Repuke candidates.

11. the Massachusetts question
Massachusetts voters are pretty good at separating church and state, so they'll tend to ignore a candidate's religious beliefs. Romney won in 2002 because a) he convinced wealthy suburbanites that their money would be safer with him in charge and b) the Democrats picked a nominee more to reward a loyal family than to actually win an election.
