Key Sunni Official Urges Participation

Friday February 16, 2007 9:46 PM

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Sunni insurgents who are “honorable and genuine” must
be given the chance to join the political process, Iraq's Sunni vice president
said in an interview published Friday.

Tariq al-Hashemi told the Arabic language daily Al-Hayat that U.S. and Iraqi
representatives must negotiate “with the participation of the resistance”
after “America has failed to run the country.”

Furthermore, al-Hashemi said “the honorable national resistance” must adopt
“a new ideology to manage the crisis.”

Al-Hashemi, leader of the Sunni Iraqi Islamic Party, has in recent months
criticized Shiite Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki over his alleged reluctance
to move against Shiite militias linked to sectarian killings.

Shiite leaders have recoiled at the use of the word “resistance”...

1. I think they are already participating...we just don't like it
They are in the 'shedding the blood of tyrants' phase, I guess. Too bad we're often the tyrants.

Iraq is a falsely created country with fake boundaries created by political necessity, which is no longer able to suffice as the glue.

Iraq is Kurdistan (for a little while, until Turkey invades, exterminates and annexes), West Iran and New Saudi Arabia.

Our 'provisional government' over there has exactly ONE SECOND more shelf life than our military presence. It is a charade for our own consumption, nothing more. These jokers barely control the Green Zone.

Anyone doing such pleading as the post describes is only acting his part in the charade, and represents no one I suspect. It seems Sunni and Shiite are ready to fight for much, much longer.

2. Why should the USA have any say at all in the negotiations?
What are we negotiating about? It is not our country, nor is it our government. We should get out and let the Iraqis negotiate without our interference.
