Group Claims Coburn Broke Election Law

By TIM TALLEY
Associated Press Writer

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A watchdog group filed complaints Friday alleging Sen. Tom Coburn's campaign broke election law by failing to properly identify some donors before the 2004 election.

An audit released last month by the Federal Election Commission showed Coburn's 2004 campaign committee failed to file some last-minute contribution reports and didn't disclosing enough information about some individual contributors. According to the audit, Coburn's campaign did not contest the findings and said it had taken steps to ensure compliance with federal laws.

The nonprofit group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, has filed similar complaints against the campaigns of two other Republicans, Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart of Florida and Rep. Marilyn Musgrave of Colorado.

Coburn defeated Democratic former U.S. Rep. Brad Carson in 2004 in what was the most costly Senate race ever in Oklahoma.

1. They're all Republics, too. How can that be? They are all so saintly.
Surely there's been a mistake!

Actually, now that I think of it, Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Miami Cuban "exile," has been temporarily in trouble for his campaign irregularities previously.

The last time his excuse was his assistant or secretary or someone really screwed up. It was all simply HER FAULT. Case closed. Uh, huh. He always has an ENORMOUS war chest, and he often seems to run practically uncontested. Guess no one wants any trouble.

Hasn't Tom Coburn been questioned other times, as well?

4. Unless there is a penalty
they will keep doing it.

Laws are pointless unless they are enforced. The current administration has been cited numerous times for failing to enforce laws.

5. Both Coburn and the editor of this piece need to be punished.
"...and didn't disclosing enough information about some individual contributors."

It's as if the internet gives these writers license to be incompetent.
