SEVEN people were killed and 48 wounded today in a twin car bombing in the disputed oil-rich city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq, local police said.
The two blasts occurred in quick succession in a garage in the mainly Kurdish Rahimawa district, which had been one of the more secure regions of the city, said police Captain Imad Jassim.
Kirkuk is claimed by Iraqi Kurds but is also home to many Sunni Arabs moved there by former dictator Saddam Hussein in an attempt to dilute Kurdish influence, and also by ethnic Turkmen and Shiite Muslims.
In Baghdad, security sources said three policemen were injured when a roadside bomb tore into their unit as it patrolled in the capital's eastern district of Ghadeer.
