Hagel, Nelson blast Senate for failing to move resolution
BY JAKE THOMPSON
WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Nebraska's U.S. senators, key players in the congressional fight over the Iraq war, expressed disappointment Saturday that the Senate failed again to move to an up-or-down vote on a resolution opposing President Bush's troop surge in Iraq.

The Senate voted 56-34, four votes short of the 60 needed to move the measure ahead.

Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Republican, and Sen. Ben Nelson, a Democrat, voted to advance the measure.

"This is a dark moment in the history of the United States Senate," Nelson said. "By failing to consider this measure, the institution has failed the American people."

2. MN Sen Norm Coleman should have been able to schmooze 4 votes from his
republican co-conspirators. He is one of the most effective money-grubbers for the RNC - surely he could exude some of his oily charm and get 4 senators to vote with him. It's the right thing, Norm.

4. The funny thing about this NON-vote
is in effect it still IS a vote-everybody who voted the way they voted would have voted the same if a full debate was allowed by the minority...it still worked
