Fox Opens Competition With CNBC With Jab ("more business-friendly" than rival)
Fox Opens Competition With CNBC With Jab
Feb 18, 11:43 AM (ET)

By DAVID BAUDER

NEW YORK (AP) - News Corp. (NWS) chief Rupert Murdoch says the new Fox Business Channel will be "more business-friendly" than rival CNBC, making that point on the day he announced his network would launch at the end of the year.

It was the first hint that a classic political tactic used in launching Fox News Channel a decade ago - defining the opposition - was back in play.

Within a day of Murdoch's statement on Feb. 8, Fox News business anchor Neil Cavuto told MarketWatch that "we're going to be a channel for America - not for old white men with money."

Roger Ailes, chairman and chief executive for Fox News, told The New York Times that he'd often seen things on CNBC where they aren't as friendly to corporations and profits as they should be.

"We don't get up every morning thinking business is bad," Ailes said.

Substitute "America" for "business" in that quote and you'd swear it was 1996 again, and Ailes was needling CNN.

1. I wonder if they'll lie as much about business
Edited on Sun Feb-18-07 01:39 PM by C_U_L8R
as they do about news? Stocks are up when they're down?
Hmm there could be a lot of hanky panky going on if they are not 120% truthful.
Sounds like a suckers network. Would you trust Fox News with your money ?????

Neither does CNBC. CNBC is extremely business friendly. But they are also an organization that reports fairly honestly, which is something FOX can't stand. Ailes and Murdoch are bringing us a 24-hour corporate propaganda channel, which should compliment their 24-hour GOP propaganda channel nicely.

Edited on Sun Feb-18-07 03:26 PM by Turbineguy
will move over there.

"..stocks are down today on the news of a new terror threat.."

"..in spite of a new terror threat, stocks are rallying.."

"..interest rates went up today because of a new terror threat.."

5. CNBC spits on wage earners
and loves when the private monied elite fight over LBOs.

Hard to see how FauxNews can be any more business friendly.

7. Well, I don't remember seeing CNBC defending Enron to the bitter end
The folks at Faux Business will probably fellate people like Ken Lay until they actually get convicted.

9. CNBC mostly ignored Enron and it downplays most corruption trials
Which is how most of the monied want it treated.

If FauxNews highlights corruption trials by defending them, I do not see the elite sticking around to watch.

11. I can understand *more business friendly* if true.

.... with Faux being the propaganda arm of the corrupt BushCo administration.

And BushCo simply would not exist without evil big business.

12. "More business friendly" Does Faux understand disclosure?
When they have a so called investment expert from xyz do they get they have to disclose so called experts holdings and the holdings of the company they work for? I've only Cavutos show once, i thought it was supposed to be about business, it sure didn't seem like it.

14. So instead of serving "old white men with money"....
Fox will be serving "young white men with money" instead.

O.K. I don't see any major difference here.

19. Fox is shooting themselves in the foot
When your money is on the line, you want accurate business reporting, not feel good business news. Investors want to hold business's accountable so they won't be the ones getting screwed over.

23. I can only imagine what this channel will be like. gag
Why can't they just report information without cheerleading for one side over another? Seems to me they shot their credibility to hell with this announcement. Rupert Murdock is a scourge on the media.
