Wal-Mart profit climbs nearly 9 percent
Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s fourth-quarter profit rose 8.8 percent .

Chief Executive Officer Lee Scott singled out Wal-Mart's flagship U.S. business for boosting the company with a twin strategy of discounting hot items such as electronics and holiday toys while continuing to tailor stores more closely to local demographics.

The world's largest retailer, which has Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores in the Lansing area, reported this morning it earned $3.9 billion, or 95 cents per share, for the three-month period that ended Jan. 31. That was up from a profit of $3.6 billion, or 87 cents, per share, one year earlier.

Sales climbed 10.9 percent to $98.1 billion in the recent quarter.

1. F*CK Wal-Mart.
One of the most abusive American companies there is. Those "feel good" commercials on TV are a joke. I know an attorney who has represented former Wal-Mart employees, and the things that company does to its employees is downright illegal.

6. I'm sure the Walton family is overjoyed....
the idle rich that had nothing whatsoever to do with Wal*Mart's success can now roll over more comfortably on the extra sacks of money piled upon the bodies of those that they destroyed to obtain it . Gee, thanks, Waltons! :grr:

7. The same Wal-Mart that said they experienced a bad xmas season?
I remember Wal-Mart crying early in November how their sales were down. Even after the holidays were over, they said they were the least profitable part of the industry.

These people buy whatever press they want. The public eats it up and they laugh all the way to the bank.

Peace

12. That's what I thought
I'd sure like to know how their profit went up if their sales were flat.

8. unions!
The only way labor will remain a force in this country is if all the unions put aside their differences and make all out effort to unionize wal-mart. I offer up las vagas as a large market with a strong union base. It is also a market where wal-mart is dug in to deep to cut and run.
