Weeks before a grand jury hearing that may bring new criminal charges, relatives of Emmett Till are hoping his 1955 murder case is finally coming to a close.
A Mississippi grand jury is being enpaneled next month to consider additional charges in Till's death, based on evidence from the Justice Department's re-examination of the case.
"It's progress, and I think it says something about America that we are making some progress," said Till's cousin Wheeler Parker, of Chicago. "A lot of people involved will not be pursued or prosecuted, but even if it's not through due process, everyone reaps what they sow."
The grand jury is expected to focus on the possible involvement of Carolyn Bryant, 73, in Till's kidnapping, The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss., reported.
