WH Stands Behind Cheney's Claim That Democrats Are Helping Al-Qaeda

NEW YORK In a briefing for reporters on Air Force One today, en route to North Carolina, White House spokesperson Dana Perino said the president stood by Vice President Cheney claims yesterday that Democrats opposing the Iraq war in Congress are helping al-Qaeda.

Perino said, "The Vice President was not in any way questioning anyone's patriotism. He was questioning the strategy," adding when questioned further: "The Vice President out of line? Absolutely not."

Cheney had commented on ABC: "I think if we were to do what Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Murtha are suggesting, all we will do is validate the Al Qaeda strategy. The Al Qaeda strategy is to break the will of the American people ... try to persuade us to throw in the towel and come home, and then they win because we quit."

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi responded to President Bush: "You cannot say as the president of the United States, 'I welcome disagreement in a time of war,' and then have the vice president of the United States go out of the country and mischaracterize a position of the speaker of the House, and in a manner that says that person in that position of authority is acting against the national security of our country."

Bush had asked Pelosi to call him personally and tell him if any member of his administration went too far with the barbs, but he couldn't be reached when Pelosi called the White house, and she had to transmit her comments through chief of staff Josh Bolten.

3. bush and the rest of the criminals
in the republican party and his ignorant trash base and the right wing hate noise machine have aided, abetted, assisted and breathed life into Al-Qaeda for the past four years. bush has given them reason to exist, to have something to hate. and what does his base do about it? Spew lying right wing talking points, question the patriotism of patriots, do absolutely nothing to support our troops, avoid recruiting stations like the plaque and stock up on beer for the weekend. Until recently they believed the sun rotated around the earth. Conservatives are ignorant scum who do not deserve their constitutional liberties.

17. Some still do believe the sun rotates around earth
A member of the Texas state legislature, Warren Chisum, recently declared that the earth doesn't move. According to Chisum, the sun and other planets all revolve around the earth. He isn't alone either. There is a new and outspoken group of people who are pushing the notion of "geocentrism" and insisting that it be called a science.

Everyday the Dems allow Bush and FU Cheney to occupy the WH and our govt is one more day of support and increasing worldwide strength for Al-Qaeda. Bush/Cheney and Al-Qaeda has a symbiotic relationship, they feed one another.

My mother in law lives in Kansas and asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told her a picture of Governor Sebelious. She got me a signed picture of the governor (the same one as your Avatar I believe.) I have it framed and proudly displayed in the garage, my furnished doghouse. I appreciate her work as Governor.

8. "The Vice President out of line? Absolutely not."
They didn't think he was 'out of line' when he shot someone in the face, then had dinner and drinks instead of going to the hospital to see how he was -- and then didn't bother telling anyone at the WH it had happened.

Out of line? No, more like out of his mind ...

9. And who is the White House helping by sending NG troops w/o rifles?
Who gets emboldened when stories are published demonstrating that US troops are sent into a combat zone without proper armor for their vehicles? Whose morale suffers when it becomes known that troops are showering in 'dirty' water? How much did knowledge of the atrocious conditions at Walter Reed embolden the 'enemy' and lower the morale of our troops?

I somehow suspect that words of Dem's have less of an effect than actual actions taken (or not taken as the case may be) by the powers that be in this administration.

11. How much clearer can the administration make it?
They're delusional, don't care what anyone else thinks (especially of it's not in agreement with their delusions), and will call you an appeaser at best or a traitor at worst for voicing a different opinion.

The cards are face up on the table, Ms. Pelosi. There's no subterfuge going on. This administration would as soon toss you into a cell in Guantanamo as have to answer any niggling questions you might raise about all the waste of life and money they've committed.

The only question left is, what are you going to do about it? Continue to try to make nice, polite inquiries as to whether Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush really mean it when they call you a traitor, or stand up for yourself, your party, your Congress, and indeed the American people?

Because if you don't do it, we just might have to.

20. Pelosi and Murtha should make it clear they're also talking strategy
It's been too easy for the WH to paint the Dems as the "stab-in-the-back" party of "cut and run". They should be more forceful with the argument that Iraq is not just an un-winnable quagmire but also a huge waste of our forces and international support for the real war and not misplaced in the crossfire of a another country's civil war. I'm sure Al Qaeda takes more glee out of seeing the US wasting its blood and treasure in a war that has nothing to do with them other than helping it recruit more extremest elements from the Moslem world.

Cheney and the BFEE represent nothing that the people would want for the future leadership and direction of the US, nevermind the world. It is clear they are spoiled leftovers now, left behind by the American people and Cheney should be made to recognize that stiffly.

Only if a president (or, currently, *) is on a plane that is part of the Air Force fleet is it referred to as Air Force One. Bush didn't see 9-11 coming. Didn't launch an effective defense that day. Launched one war that we will see how smart it looks if/when it's over. Launched another war that is the mother of all disasters. Has bankrupted us, divided us and weakened our military. They've privatized our government. bush is off getting booed in SA, while dick is moving the company that stole billions from us offshore to avoid prosecution.

The Republicans - every single, loyal one of them - have Katrina-ized the US. What could the left possibly deliver to al qaeda that the right hasn't already?

Who shelved antiterrorism recommendations from the Clinton administration?
Who ignored the August 6, 2001 PDB?
Who did nothing about Pakistan's ISI fronting money to the 9/11 hijackers?
Who did nothing when Dubai's banks laundered money for the terrorists?
Who lets Saudi Arabia off the hook time after time after its home-grown religious crazies commit terrorism?
Who was responsible for letting Osama escape at Tora Bora?
Who is giving Pakistan a free pass while al Qaeda finds safe harbor within its borders?
And, lastly, who said just six months after 9/11 that he doesn't think much about bin Laden?

Don't tell me the Democrats are helping al Qaeda after all this White House has done to help Osama.
