Activist to serve time in county jail (SOA protestor from Chico, CA)
Cathy (61) was arrested during the Nov protest at SOA. This means she will serve her time at a prison only a few hours from her home town of Chico making it easy for friends and relatives to visit!

Activist to serve time in county jail

Peace activist Cathy Webster of Chico has learned she'll serve her 60-day sentence at a county jail in Elk Grove.
..snip

She was one of 16 people who walked onto federal property at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga., during the annual protest against the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (formerly known as the School of the Americas). Thousands of people take part in the demonstration. In a telephone interview Thursday, Webster said she'll need to report to the jail March 21.

She said she was a little surprised to be assigned to a county jail rather than a federal prison. She was convicted of a federal offense. Apparently, the Rio Cosumnes, which serves Sacramento County, accepts some federal prisoners under a contract.

...snip

She said she got arrested to draw attention to the plight of people in Latin America who are being tortured and killed by their own governments. Webster said for many years the institute at Fort Benning has trained soldiers from a number of Latin American countries. Many of them have committed atrocities, torture, rape and murder against their own people, she said. Activists are trying to persuade Congress to cut off funding for the institute and shut it down.

1. Gee, at 61, Cathy Webster is a little too young to be going to jail as a SOA protestor!
You must remember they are more than pleased to haul off people like the twin 80+ year old nuns they nabbed a few years ago. Now THAT must have been a very satisfying arrest!

Gotta admire this lady's spirit. More people need to know what has been happening, and to develope a conscience in their own lifetimes. Their ignorance and indifference has allowed absolute hell to be unleashed against very poor and very helpless people, all over Latin America, when they either didn't know what their right-wing Presidents were doing, or simply couldn't be bothered to care, since it didn't affect them directly.
