WP: Al Gore, global rock star

Oscar hopeful making case as America’s coolest ex-vice president
By William Booth
The Washington Post
Updated: 3:26 a.m. CT Feb 25, 2007
LOS ANGELES - In the annals of vice presidential history, tonight will be something different. In his black tux, the man known to his most fervent fans as "The Goracle" will arrive by hybrid eco-limo and, surrounded by fellow Hollywood greenies Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio, will stroll down the red carpet at the Academy Awards to answer the immortal question: "Al, who are you wearing?"

What a year it has been for Al Gore and his little indie film.

"An Inconvenient Truth," the 100-minute movie that is essentially Gore giving a slide show about global warming, is the third-highest-grossing documentary ever, with a worldwide box office of $45 million, right behind blockbusters "Fahrenheit 9/11" and "March of the Penguins."

"AIT," as Team Gore calls it, is also the hot pick tonight for Best Documentary, and if its director, Davis Guggenheim, wins an Oscar, he plans to bring Gore along with him to the stage to accept the golden statuette and perhaps say a few words about . . . interstitial glacial melting? (More likely, Gore will deliver a favorite line about "political will being a renewable resource.")

5. Al Gore is Al Gore--not a "Goracle", not a
geek. He is the real thing. His "defeat" in 2000 was a defeat for this country. He has always made me proud to be a Tennessean. I first met him in 1974 and knew he was the real thing. Much was made of his being cool, aloof and wooden in the 2000 election. Nothing could be further from the truth. If he doesn't run I can't blame him. But I do think the USA has had enough of the cheating, lying, secretive con men running this country now to realize we once had gold at our fingertips and with the help of SCOTUS ended up with fool's gold.

7. I thought the article was pro Gore
did you find it to be otherwise? If so, I am sorry that I posted it. I am trying not to post anything negative about any democrat and it is hard in some instances not to do so. Not in Gore's instance. I like Gore ok. Was disappointed with his 2000 VP choice.

9. It is pro Gore. I was only stating what I feel.
The media gave us the "fake" Gore. I am glad you posted it. Yes, his VP choice was unfortunate, but I don't think that is what killed it. Anyone Gore chose would have gone through the same thing.

23. When a supporter of one candidate attacks
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 12:39 PM by rebel with a cause
another candidate, it is sometimes hard not to say something negative back. Answer in kind. I usually just say, sitting on my hands and walking away. Meaning I am not going to fight or use dirty tactics. There are some candidate supporters that make a habit of doing this. When that candidate is one that I do not particuraly like (Gore is not one of them), then it is especially hard not to do so. Does that make it clear enough.

If I find an interesting article about a candidate that is not one I support and that candidate does not have twenty threads dedicated to them, I will still post the article as long as it is positive.

10. Re-Elect Al Gore

After all we all know he really did win in 2000 but lost to the crooks who cheated us out of more than just a president but all of the harm * and Darth Cheny have done since 2001, 9-11, Iraq, Katrina and now upcoming Iran

24. It would be more advantageous
for Al to wait until the convention to make any serious plans to run.

If he were to announce now, it would give the Repugs time to build up a really nasty campaign of lies against him and his candidacy. Even if the campaign was built totally on falsehoods, the Publics have found that if the lies are repeated loudly enough and by enough different people, then the truthfulness does not matter, just the "truthiness"!

I would expect to see a Gore candidacy sprung on the American people very late in the campaign, ( and I DO hope I am somewhere close to right)!!!!

11. He's our
"Goracle"! I wouldn't have cried so much at his consession speech if I knew what the fates had in store for him. Imagine, turning over the country to that fucking little traitorous, dictator bushit.
