Cheney arrives in Persian Gulf for talks

By JIM KRANE, Associated Press Writer 4 minutes ago

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Vice President
Dick Cheney landed in the U.S.-allied Arab monarchy of Oman Sunday, and went directly to talks with the country's foreign minister, Omani government officials said.

A U.S. embassy spokesman in Oman declined to detail Cheney's plans or the focus of his visit to the sparsely populated oil-producing state. But a government official who spoke on condition of anonymity said Cheney was to discuss regional security issues including the U.S. standoff with
Iran over its nuclear program with Oman's Foreign Minister Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah.

Oman sits across the strategically important Strait of Hormuz from Iran, through which two-fifths of the world's oil passes.

he is setting up for an attack on Iran!! He spoke with Howard and the leader of the Labor Party and made them sign a secrecy pact and now he is talking to all our proxies in the Middle East. Meanwhile Bush will be going to South America to try and divide the people.

17. Another option (as mentioned in the article) >
...Cheney's stopover could be seen as an attempt to ratchet up military pressure on Iran ahead of a meeting by the U.N. Security Council that will discuss tightening of sanctions imposed over its disputed nuclear program.

11. I find it interesting that, according to the media yesterday,...
Cheney was on his way back to the United States. This was reported along with the news that his plane was diverted to Singapore:

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A "small electrical issue" developed on Air Force Two while the plane was returning Vice President Dick Cheney to the United States after a trip to Australia, but there were no safety concerns, a White House spokeswoman said Emily Lawrimore late Saturday."

There is NO mention of him going to the Persian Gulf talks today and did he return at all to the US prior to leaving again to the Persian Gulf seeing as he was still in Singapore late last night.

Not sure what it might mean, if anything, but I found it interesting none the less.

12. Cheney Arrives in Persian Gulf for Talks
Edited on Sun Feb-25-07 05:58 PM by Dover

The tail of the Air Force Two is seen parked at the Paya Lebar Military Airbase, Sunday Feb. 25, 2007 in Singapore. U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's plane landed at a military airbase in Singapore for a scheduled refueling stop after experiencing a minor mechanical problem.(AP Photo/Wong Maye-E)

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Vice President Dick Cheney landed in the U.S.-allied Arab monarchy of Oman on Sunday and went directly to talks with its foreign minister, Omani government officials said.

A U.S. embassy spokesman in Oman declined to detail Cheney's plans or the focus of his visit to the sparsely populated oil-producing state, which allows the United States use of four air bases. But an Omani government official said Cheney was to discuss regional security issues, including the U.S. standoff with Iran over its nuclear program. The official, in the capital Muscat, spoke on condition of anonymity because he was unauthorized to speak to the press.

Oman sits across the strategically important Strait of Hormuz from Iran, through which two-fifths of the world's oil passes.

The sultanate allows the United States to use the air bases _ including one just 50 miles from Iran _ for refueling, logistics and storage of pre-positioned military supplies. Little has been revealed publicly about U.S. military ties with the reclusive country, a deeply sensitive topic inside Oman, an isolated country on the southeastern corner of the Arabian peninsula that has been a quiet U.S. military ally for decades.

The country's cooperation with the U.S. military appears to have dwindled over the past few years, but renewed U.S. access to its bases would give a huge boost to any American action on Iran...cont'd

13. NO FUCKING WAY! This fella was supposed to return to the USA today...
Here's the press release on his trip:
"The Vice President will travel to Japan and Australia during the week of February 19. He will meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister John Howard to discuss issues of mutual interest including Asian security and the global war on terror. The President has asked the Vice President to thank these two allies for their efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. In this regard, the Vice President will also thank the Japanese and Australian forces.

In addition, the Vice President will visit with U.S. troops stationed overseas in Guam."

16. This might be why
"The country's cooperation with the U.S. military appears to have dwindled over the past few years, but renewed U.S. access to its bases would give a huge boost to any American action on Iran."

"The CRS report said the Air Force maintains access rights to four Oman air bases, al-Musnanah; al-Seeb, just outside the capital Muscat; Thumrait, near the southern coast; and the Masirah Island Air Base, in the Arabian Sea. Oman's Masirah air base was the staging base for the failed U.S. attempt to rescue 66 American hostages from the former U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979."

18. It's called "an apron".
It's when the fat rolls over the groin, and abruptly up, in a curtain, or "apron" of fat.
