White House Likely to Update War Request
White House Likely to Request Additional Funds to Put Bush's Iraq Plan in Motion

WASHINGTON Mar 5, 2007 (AP)— The White House is ready to ask Congress for more money
for President Bush's plan already hotly debated to send 21,500 new combat troops into Iraq.

The move would pay for support personnel and otherwise update last month's request for the
Iraq war. It probably will draw criticism from Democrats who say the Pentagon had low-balled
estimates of the costs of Bush's plan for improving security in Baghdad and Anbar province.

The latest request could come as early as Tuesday, modifying last month's $93.4 billion
request for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan through Sept. 30.

Though the changes may be relatively modest, they nonetheless are embarrassing to the
White House and the Pentagon, which earlier dismissed criticism from lawmakers that the
original $5.6 billion estimate for the troop buildup was too low.

5. I guess you're done then, because it appears that the current strategy is to modify the bill to

provide oversight and better protection and more time between deployments, etc. for the soldiers.

This change does give the Democrats an opportunity to modify their strategy, but I doubt they'll drastically modify it enough to not put something up and vote yes on it.

Democrats are looking at the must-pass supplemental spending bill as a way of attaching their domestic initiatives. They include farm disaster aid, money for a children's health insurance program and improvements to levees around New Orleans.

9. seems to me they are BEGGING for the democrats to DENY FUNDING FOR THE TROOPS

which is of course what they'll call it when and IF (but i'm not holding my breath waiting for it) the dems withhold ANY funds at all for the war. their pals at fox news and the usual suspects probably have newspaper columns ready and waiting for the day not to mention the usual congresscritters.
