Romney, Anderson split on Bush leadership

WASHINGTON - In 2003, Mitt Romney went to bat for Rocky Anderson.
But four years later, Romney is a Republican presidential hopeful - and he has reservations about the controversial Salt Lake City mayor.
Anderson is making a name for himself nationwide as an anti-war luminary. And he has made headlines by calling for impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
Romney, on the other hand, has praised Bush for his leadership while campaigning in early primary states. After all, Bush may not be popular nationwide, but with conservative Republicans who will decide their party's nominee, the president is still a respected leader.
A Romney's campaign spokesman said today that while the candidate supported the mayor in the past, "Obviously we strongly disagree with Mayor Anderson's opinions on President Bush. His opinions and beliefs are his own and not shared" by Romney."

2. Why are all the would-be Republican candidates

So determined to ride the Titanic to the bottom?

Are they simply blind to how hated Bush has become? Do they really think that licking his boots will help them win the election?

Or perhaps they simply think that's necessary to win the nomination -- that Republican primary voters are still predominantly Bush supporters. That could be true.

3. I saw a poll on here a few weeks back

It was about republic presidential candidates and what republics were looking for in them. Roughly 39% wanted more of Bush-like policies and administration, the same amount wanted more conservative and the roughly 12% remaining wanted less conservative. So in answer to your question the more malignant one is the better chance they have of making it out of the republic primary.
