Iran seeks talks with US House speaker Pelosi
(AFP)

13 April 2007

TEHERAN - A top MP said on Friday the Teheran parliament would favour talks with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after her controversial visit to Iran’s ally Syria, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

“We are ready for talks with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi,” said Mohammad Nabi Rudaki, deputy head of the influential national security commission in Iran’s conservative-dominated parliament.

“Parliamentary talks can discuss bilateral problems and bring US, European and Iranian nations closer. They could also consider Iran’s peaceful nuclear issues,” he said.

But Rudaki added that “this willingness does not mean a resumption of political ties with the occupying and bullying US government.”...

2. Good. Start talking. Peace is here if you want it.
The Democratic Party needs to recognize that the White House is occupied by a stubborn stupid deranged frat-brat, that the executive branch is completely disfunctional, and that a rump government needs to take over and start preparing for the post-cabal world right now.

I would like to ask one question: Did Nancy Pelosi confer with Jane Fonda before going to Iran?

4. The LAST thing bushco wants is an American public receptive to the idea of peace in this area.
The very idea of war not happening is more than anyone in bushco can bear. Just watch at how they spin this into Pelosi supporting the terrorists.

5. "Better U.S.-Iran ties would help Iraq: Iraqi spokesman"
Latest breaking news: see DU post

While the Iraqi spokesman, speaking at the White House, spouts BushCon lines--on no troop withdrawal timeline, and purported Iranian interference in Iraq, he throws in this zinger--that improved relations between the US and Iran would be helpful.

Interesting. Was it scripted? Hard to say. Something tells me it was not.

In any case, Pelosi can cite it to fend off our war profiteering corporate news monopolies and their echo chamber in the White House, when they come at her, for this Iranian's proposal. She can say: Even the Bush Iraqis think that improved relations with Iran is a good idea! What the hell's wrong with the BushCons, that they were rather nuke than talk? What kind of world class assholes do we have running our government?

Or words to that effect.

9. I agree with you, this initiative may be the best offence
against the BFEE. I have been praying for the Democrats to go into a proactive mode as opposed to reacting to every criminal act. By reacting to their actions we are always dancing to their tune.

Top US lawmaker has no plans for Iran trip: aide

Wed Apr 11, 5:50 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, fresh from
a controversial trip to Syria last week, has "no intention" of
visiting Iran, her office said Wednesday, as the White House
condemned any such plan.

"The Speaker has no intention of going to Iran," Pelosi spokesman
Brendan Daly said by e-mail after a senior lawmaker and close ally
who accompanied her to Damascus seemed to float the idea in a
press conference.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino had said earlier that, with
fresh US charges that Iran is helping to kill US forces in Iraq, "it's
troubling that some Democrats are making travel arrangements to
visit Tehran."
