Iraqi spokesman criticizes Senate vote
Source: Associated Press

BAGHDAD - An Iraqi government spokesman criticized the U.S. Senate vote to begin withdrawing U.S. troops by Oct. 1.

"We see some negative signs in the decision because it sends wrong signals to some sides that might think of alternatives to the political process," Ali al-Dabbagh told The Associated Press.

He spoke after the Senate passed legislation Thursday that would require the start of troop withdrawals from Iraq by Oct. 1. The House passed the same bill a day earlier, and President Bush has promised a veto.

The legislation is the first binding challenge on the war that Democrats have managed to send to Bush since they reclaimed control of both houses of Congress in January.

"Coalition forces gave lots of sacrifices and they should continue their mission, which is building Iraqi security forces to take over," al-Dabbagh said. "We see (it) as a loss of four years of sacrifices."

1. And we should care what he thinks why exactly?
And we should make this a breaking story in the Associated Press why exactly?

Because it serves Bush administration propaganda, I suppose...

3. I don't know who the Iraqi government thinks they're fooling...
Their legislative branch is on life-support and most of the country wants the US out.

5. So this vote means attacks on US soldiers will drop
now that we officially informed the "freedom fighters" we are leaving, right ?

/sarc

Those who threw in with the democracy movement honestly thinking life will change for the better will have to leave the Iraq to the freedom movment imo

6. Iraqi spokesman says building Iraqi forces to take over
Didn't Gates say a few days ago that was no longer our goal?
Did I misremember here?

7. Please sacrifice more of your troops!
And what does he mean about sending wrong signals to "some sides"? What side is he talking about, Halliburton?

8. Why would it be negatvie? Hasn't Lt AWOL repeatedly said that there are fully trained
Iraqi units ready to step up and defend their country and take over for the US troops?

Unless.....there really AREN'T any Iraqi troops trained...but that would mean that Smirky McCokespoon has been lying about THAT as well...??

Colour me surprised... :eyes:

12. On the phone--"Mr. Gates, was that good enough? Did I say what you wanted?"
It is absolutely obvious that one of the messages Sec. Gates delivered while he visited Iraq was to make that if the US military goes, so does the $$$$$ (whether that is true or not). So I am completely not surprised that this Iraqi spokesman would say what he said.

13. The quislings don't want to lose power or their lives. Both of which will
happen when we go.

Not only do the Iraqi people not want us there, they don't want this
'elected government'.

Why are republics so damn arrogant that they see Iraqis as being so stupid that they wouldn't understand what a puppet government is in power?

14. they should continue their mission, which is building Iraqi security forces to take over
Maybe I'm confused. I thought we had eliminated training Iraqis as a major goal of our military in Iraq? Shouldn't the Iraqi government know this?

I don't expect iraq to want us to leave. But, it's not their choice. We've spent all we can and Iraqis continue to blow each other up - and us. We have an incompetent administration, so no effort we make will actually come to fruition.

Sorry, iraqis. The time of US military spending mulit-billions of dollars on you is about to end.

Peace
