Cajundome must repay FEMA

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has asked the Cajundome to repay $1 million that had been reimbursed to the facility for its use as a shelter during the 2005 hurricanes.

Cajundome Director Greg Davis said Friday that the news FEMA wanted the money back came with a denial of an appeal he had made to the agency for more money...

Davis and state officials have said they were informed in a September 2005 meeting with FEMA officials that the Cajundome would be treated as a contractor and reimbursed for usage fees.

According to the denial letter, FEMA officials explained that only privately owned facilities are eligible for the lease or rental payments for sheltering operations.

2. In a nutshell, if Halliburton...
owned the facility, they would be eligible for reimbursement for lost revenue and usage fees, but the people of Louisiana are not eligible. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

5. FEMA Have A Bake Sale
They will have as much chance getting that much money out of a bake sale then they will trying to get money out of the struggling city of New Orleans.

6. The Cajun Dome is in Lafayette, not New Orleans, I think you were thinking of the Super Dome.
Lafayette probably has less money on hand than does NOLA, since there has been a huge influx of population there post Katrina and the tax base has not yet caught up to the increased need of services.

7. LaFayette was all about Rita.
Cameron and Lake Charles were devastated by Hurricane Rita. LaFayette or Orange, TX were the most logical places for people to go.

8. Orange, TX had lots of damage from RIta as well
That entire area right there, the Beaumont/Pt. Arthur/Orange/Lake Charles area was hit hard.

9. You know what?
You are so right. I remember people moving farther inland to Alexandria, LA, Nacogdoches, TX and even Tyler, TX.

LaFayette is only about 45 miles to the Gulf.

10. What about schools
Are they saying that all the schools that were used as shelters won't be reimbursed - anywhere in the country??

All this does is contributes to the notion that government doesn't work, which is exactly what Republicans want their constituents to believe.
