Erin remnants trap victims in cars in Minn., Okla.; Wisc., Texas also hit

WINONA, Minn. - Hundreds of people remained evacuated while rescue crews fanned out Monday after relentless thunderstorms dropped up to a foot of rain in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin, bursting riverbanks, engulfing cars and forcing rescuers to pluck residents from rooftops.

Six deaths were reported in Minnesota. Flash floods also killed at least six people in Oklahoma and one in Texas as the remnants of Tropical Storm Erin crashed through the South.

Very sad. This has been some bad weather. People usually only discuss the hurricane/tropical storm winds and the storm surge on the coasts. But this weather can have serious impact deep inland as well.

1. The vast majority of TS & hurricane damage is flooding, not wind.

12 die in Midwest flooding

By SCOTT BAUER, Associated Press Writer 28 minutes ago

WINONA, Minn. - Rivers swollen by as much as a foot of rain lifted houses off their foundations and washed away roads, killing at least 12 people in three states, authorities said Sunday.

Hundreds of people in southeastern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin were evacuated, some by boat off rooftops.

"I cannot describe the terror of it all. I'm just glad to be alive," said Sean Wehlage, 29, who climbed onto the roof of his one-story home in Stockton to wait out the storm.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty ordered 240 National Guard soldiers to the area to help with flood-relief and provide security, and the Red Cross set up emergency shelters. Six deaths were reported in Minnesota.

3. I guess Pawlenty hasn't yet seen the error of his ways.
Perhaps the spaghetti goddess sees him as not totally morally bankrupt and is willing to allow him one more try at educating himself to the realities of the universe and the moral and ethical responsibilities of people to each other and the environment.

Miz Spaghetti, ma'am, you are gifted with more patience than I, may you high five forever...
