GOP touts swift action on Craig

By LARRY MARGASAK, Associated Press Writer 32 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Sen. Larry Craig's guilty plea convinced GOP leaders to swiftly signal to the Idaho Republican that he should resign, the party's Senate campaign chairman said Sunday.

Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., said the plea to disorderly conduct in an airport men's room separated Craig's case from Sen. David Vitter's involvement with an escort service.
.................

Another Republican, Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, said on "Fox News Sunday" that Craig should seek to vindicate himself.

"I'd like to see Larry Craig seek to withdraw the guilty plea, and fight the case," said Specter, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. "I'd like to see him fight the case because I think he could be vindicated."

3. For the EXACT same reason the NFL reacted to Vick
He threatened to alienate them from a prime source of revenue. With Vick, the NFL was worried he would affect ticket sales. With Craig, the Republicans feared he would cut into their political fundraising. One of the hotbutton issues the Republicans use is homosexuality. Their fundraisers bring it up every chance they can. They had to drop the overt racial stuff, so now they go after gays and lesbians.

That's the real reason they drove Craig out, but left Vitter alone. It wasn't about the governors. It was because the people they beg money from and frighten into supporting them are homophobic, and if they left Craig in the party, their fundraising would go down.

It's usually about the money. Even when it's not, it usually is.

4. They learned
covered for Rep Foley for twelve years, so now they know they need to be loud and public with their actions. I think Sen. Craig was more of a symbolic hit by the GOPedophiles. The next pervert in the party may or may not be hit so hard.

5. As usual it is CYA time for the
Republicans. I don't think it will work. The air of superiority which Republicans have will not get them out of this. It always amazes me how simple-minded they think we, the public, are. From what I gather Sen. Craig's reputation has always been suspect. But, you know that is his business. Evidently the Repubs thought so too until this episode. Maybe they are keeping this alive in order to blunt the Iraq war, uninsured children, a failing economy (in my estimation anyway.) and more unemployment down the road. We all know there is a buffoon in the oval office, but there are also too many on the hill. We need to put all those Scrabble dies back in the sack and start all over again.

6. I've said this in other threads, but he already had enemies higher up
for opposing Chimpy on the Patriot Act--add to that being gay, and in a safe red state with a Repug Gov, and he was automatically toast.

7. It's Been HOW MANY YEARS Since The Page Scandal?
Edited on Sun Sep-02-07 12:00 PM by Demeter
1983--that's when Craig decided to "grow a beard" (marriage of concealment)

"Over five months, the Statesman examined rumors about Craig dating to his college days and his 1982 pre-emptive denial that he had sex with underage congressional pages."

http://www.idahostatesman.com/localnews/story/143801.html

24 years is not exactly what I'd call swift.

Maybe in Congressional years, it is, though.

19. It is swift action except when it isn't.
Video of Craig back then when he was implicated. The GOP didn't bother doing anything then.

The only thing that's "separating" Craig's case from Vitter's are the parties of their state governors. The Rethugs know that Craig's Republican governor will replace him with another Republican. They haven't forced Vitter to resign because his Democratic governor will probably replace him with a Democrat!

only intent on Craig...

THAT'S the crime. If the Repubs really believed in their values, they wouldn't be waiting for law enforcement to make it "official!"

15. Yep. Plus what Craig did was so "icky" to the thugs.
Vitter's a big hero because his pecker was used with "godly" intent.

Goddamned hypocrites. I hope there really is a Hell for these bastards.

12. Right after they checked to make sure Gov of Idaho...
was a Republican. If Craig had been from a state with a Democratic Governor, they wouldn't lift a finger (see Senator Vitter).

"Kinky diaper sex with prostitutes is a republicon tradition, best exemplified by our heroic republicon Senator David Vitter of Louisiana, and we were PROUD to give him a standing ovation when he claimed that Jesus loves him for being a diaper-sex freak, This is the Very Best we republicon homelanders have to offer"

20. Swift action on Craig, VITTER? not so swift, if at all
As Senator Spector said on Chris Wallace show this morning: "It's a double standard" IMHO, it's
not only double standards, but it's a political move, because Vitter doesn't have to run for
re-election in 2008! Oh, those sneaky republicans :eyes:  :spank: :spank: They need a good
spanking for being so selective!

22. If The GOP purges all the perverts and closeted gays from their party...
that will leave them with about 5 candidates for Congress by 2008.

Because, don't forget.

They'll also have to purge all their gay staffers, who also know where their bosses have buried the bodies.

Now would be a good time to buy a subscription to Hustler.
