Court Leaves Ala. Sex Toy Ban Intact
By PHILLIP RAWLS – 7 hours ago

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court declined Monday to hear a challenge to Alabama's ban on the sale of sex toys, ending a nine-year legal battle and sending a warning to store owners to clean off their shelves.

An adult-store owner had asked the justices to throw out the law as an unconstitutional intrusion into the privacy of the bedroom. But the Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal, leaving intact a lower court ruling that upheld the law.

Sherri Williams, owner of Pleasures stores in Huntsville and Decatur, said she was disappointed, but plans to sue again on First Amendment free speech grounds.

"My motto has been they are going to have to pry this vibrator from my cold, dead hand. I refuse to give up," she said.

And to think that the state actually appears to be serious about enforcing this nonsense.

39. Dildos aren't the problem.....
we must ban batteries, let's get are priorities straight....

Say do you have to register as a sex offender now? Do we have to register our dildos? I have had a few dates where the sex was offensive-do we register them? Wait we weren't married-does that make me a sex offender? I can just see the patch now. Yellow triangle with a dildo in the center. :eyes:

Don't we have more serious matters at hand!

3. What possible interest
does the government of Alabama have in this issue? Why do they even care? Don't the legislators in Alabama have anything better to do??

If it's a states rights issue why did the SCOTUS rule that medical marijuana was still a crime in CA even after the voters of this state approved it? We can have dildos, though.

EVER, EVER going to get it that you can't legislate behavior? Even death penalty states still have cold blooded killers. No legislation will ever stop any behavior of any kind as long as there are human beings with desires in their head and the will to carry it out. Legislating SAFE behavior is just stupid.

17. HA! Yeah ... are they gonna ban zucchinis and other um ... similarly shaped vegetables?
And what about warm apple pie ... a'la the movie "American Pie?"

C'mon, you can't get much more American than apple pie. 'Cept mebbee hotdogs ...

Oh, wait.

Uh oh.

Best be fer bannin' them sex toys, too.

And hell, best be fer bannin' carrots etc.

Fuck it, ban beer bottles, 'spensive glass cigar containers (heh, don't ask) and um ... broom handles and toilet plunger handles (that's so the cops can't use 'em on perps) (oh, wait, it's okay for cops to do that ... just no one in the privacy of their own home)

I'm so tempted to post a photo of my vibrators (aka my bestest friends) but I'll restrain myself.

p.s. I found this highly amusing ( Note: not an intentional nod toward this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1951513 ), I couldn't remember the title of the afore mentioned movie, so I did a google search thusly: "apple pie"+fuck ... brought up some funny shit. Further I did a dictionary.com search for zucchini ... wanted to make sure I made no stupid "this is a vegetable" when in actuality it's a fucking fruit (no pun) (a'la the tomato ... who'd a thunk it? ... or as Quayle would spell it "tomatoe" ... him or W.) and that brought up some funny shit, too. Or should I say tooe?

k + r

Yay! Though my knickers are still in a damned bunch. I'm off to fix that. Lose the knickers and grab my vibrator. FUCK IT ... I'm grabbing all three. I'll find a orifice ... I'll put a couple in my bleedin' nares if I have to.

bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

40. You should check their entire platform
Other than those two items they are a disaster.

Their policy laughably known as 'economic' is positively EVIL and would completely undermine most of what little human progress we've accomplished as a society in the last 150 years.

They live in a paranoid cloud coo-coo land of Randian "individualism" that is as impractical as it is unrealizable.

Human beings are wired as social animals. It's in the freakin' DNA. The entire libertarian set of myths and fantasies fly in the face of this FACT.

The libertarian party IS a cognitive disconnect...

I will admit that for a lot of issues I would find a pragmatic "libertarian" a much better ally against the phony "war on drugs", the phony "war on terra (tm)" and Big Brother in our Bedrooms than ANY republican...

30. is a ban on "sex toys" inherently sexist?
As a woman, most women I know own vibrators. I know there are the same kind of things for men, but are they honestly the core of the sales made with this kind of thing? I've been under the impression the ban doesn't cover pornographic movies but only the "physical representations". It just seems creepy to me that they wouldn't even hear it.
