Clinton raises $22 million, bests Obama

WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton raised $22 million for her presidential primary campaign this summer, outpacing all other candidates so far with her best three-month showing of the year.

Her total fundraising of nearly $80 million for the 2008 presidential race, reported Tuesday, puts her on a par with her chief Democratic fundraising rival, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois. He still leads Clinton in money raised for the primaries alone, though trailing in national opinion polls.

Obama reported raising at last $19 million from July through September for the primaries. He has raised a total of $75 million for the primary season and about $4 million for the general election next year.

Clinton's summer donations bring her total primary dollars raised this year to $62 million. The New York senator also raised $5 million for the general election in the quarter, adding to $12.6 million from previous quarters.

1. man those multinational corporations
that control everything sure do love hillary, I bet she will be the best candidate for president because the people with all the money love to give her a tiny bit of it. I say we should just vote for the person that gets the most money because after all isnt that a true sign of leadership?

7. $27 million vs. $20 million
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Hillary Clinton raised $27 million in the third quarter for her 2008 Democratic bid for the White House, a Clinton aide said Tuesday.

All but $5 million of Clinton's funds can be spent trying to win the Democratic presidential nomination in the primaries, the aide said.

More than 100,000 new donors contributed to the New York Democrat, the aide said.

Clinton outpaced her closed rival, Sen. Barack Obama, over the last three months, a reversal of positions from the second quarter.

The Obama campaign announced Monday the Illinois Democrat raised at least $20 million for his presidential campaign during the third quarter. All but about $1 million of Obama's contributions can be used in the primary fight.

$27 million vs. $20 million is a bigger difference than the original post made it sound like. In fact I think it is quite telling.
