Small Beads Can Get Out, Cause Choking
POSTED: 10:20 am EDT October 2, 2007

Target and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have recalled about 82,000 plush rattles sold at the store.

A news release said the sports-themed rattles can break open, and the small beads inside present a choking hazard.

The rattles are shaped like a baseball, football and basketball. Tags sewn onto the rattles say "Reg. No. PA5706(CN), Distributed by Double Nice Co Ltd. 3f-2 No. 325, Wu Chuan Road, Taichung, Taiwan, Made in China."

They were sold nationwide from March 2007 to May 2007 for about $1.

The news release said consumers should take the recalled rattles away from young children immediately and return them to any Target store for a full refund.

1. Toys Are Overrated
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 11:06 AM by liberal N proud
I like this commentary from CBS Sunday Morning show:

Mo Rocca says that as parents wait out the Mattel toy recall they might be surprised at how overrated store-bought toys are, considering kids can have fun with Tupperware.

3. My favourite toy was a tin pan and wooden spoon.
Of course, I come from the boomer generation that apparently was born with the wherewithall not to poke my eye out with the handle of said spoon as I flailed away at the tin pan. Can't answer to my parent's mental health . . .

My son's favourite toys were plastic containers, wooden spoons, and those old-style wooden blocks. I set up a lower cabinet in the kitchen for him (the rest were closed with tot-locks) - he could go in and out at will, drag the stuff around, make a mess . . . he never poked out an eye, either, and only pinched his finger in the cabinet door a couple of times. No serious damage or emotional scarring from those incidents.

I made homemade "play dough" because he had allergies to the dyes in the store stuff - made homemade fruit leather for the same reason - the dyes. Invented toys from objects around the house. Kids have incredible imaginations if you don't stunt them by giving them pre-made, purpose-built toys. They're like little MacGyvers if you give them a chance!

2. A Great Opportunity For U.S. Crafters
Imagine actually buy well made toys here! The market is wide open for anyone with skills and a little imagination.
