Associated PressDETROIT (AP) - Union officials say UAW members at a pair of General Motors locals in Michigan have approved the tentative contract agreement with the automaker.
About 74,000 United Auto Workers across the country will get a chance to vote on the 4-year deal that includes promises of new products at 16 assembly plants and a union-run trust funded by the company. The trust would be responsible for future retiree health care costs.
UAW officials say the balloting should be counted nationwide by October 10th. The deal was reached September 26th and came after a 2-day national strike.
Union officials say 82% of Local 652 members in Lansing who voted approved the deal, while workers at Local 653 in Pontiac voted 73% in favor of the pact.
